Yeah, this won't last very long.

For those of you that are too young to remember, they tried this crap back in the 90's and it failed miserablly.

Women don't buy comics. They love geek culture, and they love all the attention it gets them but they don't read comics in any signifigant numbers.

Once they start seeing that they aren't making money by ignoring their core audence, they'll go back to business as usual.

[–]ohsweetword 19 points19 points19 points 12 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Yeah women use geek culture to create a harem of male orbiters. Those sluts that dress up for cosplay conventions, they are just the latest version of attention whoring. All the little dorks that go there think they might have a chance with them, but they really just do it for Twitter popularity and amazon wishlists.

They've found a way to farm out orbiter betas and make money off strangers thanks to the internets. They can have all the attention and upside of the model they could never be without having to be nearly as hot.

It's crazy what some of those nerdy sluts will wear in public haha.

[–]Clauderoughly 9 points10 points11 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

yeah, my wife and I are regular con go'ers and we have seen the most blantant attention whoring costumes.

They are grenade fishing for attention usually.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

If those cosplay girls were literally prostitutes just think of all the money they would take away from going to comic cons or whatever. They're typically held in hotels too, so it'd be super convenient.

[–]jobs33ker 6 points7 points8 points 12 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

They love geek culture

Wrong

they love all the attention it gets them

Correct.

This brings me to a topic that may well warrant it's own thread. The issue of the whole "nerd empowerment" movement and what it means for men as a whole.

We are all familiar with the modern phenomenon of the "g4mer gurl". The attention whore who streams herself playing video games, while making sure her cleavage is highly visible. Almost as visible as her PayPal donation button taking up a significant portion of the screen. With hundreds, if not thousands of would-be orbiters in the chat room, competing for her "attention".

I seriously just threw up in my mouth a little just describing that shit

[–]Clauderoughly 6 points7 points8 points 12 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

They are essentially strippers for the geek world.

If beta chumps want to waste their money on them, sucks to be them.

The scenario you described doesn't illicit any strong emotion from be because it's a woman acting completely normally

You need to get pussy off that pedestal. You'll be much happier for it.

[–]jobs33ker 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Did you just tell me to get the pussy of the pedestal? Dudebro ...I assure you there's no one who holds the pussy further away from the pedestal then I do. what makes me mad is that the beta chumps are so willing to shell out cash !

[–]Clauderoughly 3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Then why are you so emotional about the idea.

I seriously just threw up in my mouth a little just describing that shit

Do not hate the scorpion for it's nature.

Yes, it's pathetic behavior on both sides, but really it is completely immaterial to me. You seem to be made very angry by it.

Why is that ?

[–]jobs33ker 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I was using hyperbole. And its not the behavior of the bitch I care about, its the beta faggots who reward the behavior that I hate. I admit they piss me off. I hate them!!

[–]Clauderoughly 3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

its the beta faggots who reward the behavior that I hate. I admit they piss me off. I hate them!!

Again, don't give them hate because they are beta faggots. It means you still care about them. They are lost souls and you are better off spending your energy elsewhere.

I have just spent the last week IT temping while I wait for a project to kick off and I am working with the biggest neckbeard beta I have ever met.

All I can feel for him now is pity, because he is happy in is own pathetic world.

Some guys will just be beta's, nothing you can do.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No, its this thing some of the guys here do, sort of like how some rape victims come to identify with and admire their rapists.

It may be 'natural' to do this, but it's natural to rape and murder, too. Society is wise enough to tamp down on that, and nobody would be making excuses for the whole raping and murdering thing.

I mean, if society had always indulged women like this, they may have had a point. But for most of human history, behavior like this would have had massively negative consequences. So it's likely that the repulsion men feel at this behavior is every bit as natural as the behavior itself.

Edit: back in the hunter and gatherer days, a woman who caused trouble between the men who were relied upon for hunting would have been exiled, which is pretty much a death sentence given how pathetic the individual human is at surviving in the wild.

[–]jobs33ker 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Honestly kind of baffled me why you say that. I have subscribed to the red pill philosophy long before it was around. So don't be tellin me.

[–]TRP VanguardCyralea 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

League of Legends is a perfect example of this phenomenon. There are female streamers in the 80% percentile that have a larger fanbase than some streamers in the top 0.1% percentile. They hardly play the game enough to get any good at it, but they love the attention.

Kind of makes sense, when you account for the fact that online gaming is full of thirsty dudes.

[–][deleted] 24 points25 points26 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

You can almost see the milk oozing from their man tits. Fucking beta nerds, thanks for taking yourselves completely out of contention for the world's available pussy.

Is the introduction of less sexy female characters going to hook lots of new female readers? I don't know, I'm not a girl. But if there's one sure way to get new, young teenage male readers, it's with sexy female characters.

[–]PolegarVermelho4 points 12 years ago* [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

Is the introduction of less sexy female characters going to hook lots of new female readers?

Women hate to see sexy, young and fit women, and yet female magazines are full of sexy, young and fit women showing a lot of skin. It's a mystery!

[–]redpillshadow 5 points6 points7 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I love it when people do this kind of blatant stupidity. There is a reason people say "sex sells" and saying it shouldn't won't change profits. I love watching people invest tons of money in a failing business plan. It just proves our point even more.

[–]MahlerNinth 17 points18 points19 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Feminist comic books = comic books with zero humor.

Women, especially feminists, have little sense of humor and no ability to actually portray the world around them without putting themselves as the center of it all.

[–]B_Campbell 3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Hey here's a thought. Let women draw comics if they want to how they want to and expand the market. If people want this they'll buy them. No need to wussify the current successful model.

[–]Clauderoughly 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Never happen because women won't take the risks to do their own graphic novels, even though it is easier than it has even been.

They just whine at the men who created the industry to change to fit them. The usual feminist bullshit.. nothing to see here.

[–]Endorsed ContributorrebuildingMyself 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Plus they know they'll fail. Like everything else, they want to artificially inflate the success of their "idea" by eliminating competition and force a captive market.

[–]Endorsed ContributorrebuildingMyself 3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No medium is safe from the penis - envy of feminists.

[–]Sufferix 3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I think we need to do some categorical analysis because we seem to often derail into a circlejerk like the rest of Reddit, even though we're generally not wrong.

In terms of business, the desexualization of female characters is stupid. Someone else dropped the (true) sex sells cliche, and I can never fault a company for making money in any legitimate way. I've heard, but not seen, of a study where they catered television to men and women. A large portion of men would not watch the women-oriented shows or purchase the women-oriented products, but the majority of women would still watch and purchase for men-oriented programming. If this is true across the board, why would any business ever cater to the female demographic? It's just a loss of profit.

However, let's limit ourselves to story content. Some of the outfits don't make any sense. Someone else brings up the inverse relationship between amount of clothing and power in anime, and it's relevant but we're more focusing on American comics. There's no functional reason for Psylocke to dress like she does, the only excuse I can make is that she's damaged from being raped (not sure if that's even canon) but I don't give the vast majority of comic book writers credit to even be considering that. Wonder Woman is in the same boat. She's not invincible or immortal or invulnerable and she's been a warrior all her life. You would think that she would wear something that actually protects... any part of her body during combat--oh, she got a head crown right?

These betas are crying over outward criticism of their hobby, mostly because some feminist twat probably ridiculed them for looking at too sexy cartoons that she could never compete with, however this doesn't make the assertion that some of the character designs are fucking dumpster retarded in terms of their role and styles within the story.

Let's just have Martin write everything ever before he dies. His portrayal of both sexes is accurate (for the era/genre he writes) and more compelling than any of the other equally mainstream stuff.

Yo, this shit is longer than I thought and doesn't accurately reflect my lack of care for the subject.

[–]TRP VanguardCyralea 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Realistic portrayal isn't always the desirable goal when telling stories in a fantasy setting. Picture the story of the badass ninja that can deflect bullets with his sword. Yeah, it's nonsensical, but that's what makes it fun.

It'd be pretty damn boring if every damn comic superhero wore full MilTac body armor.

[–]Sufferix 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No, but that usually comes with a stylistic choice in theme or artwork. What I'm describing isn't under that, it's just "sexualization" of a female character without expressed logical reason. Mystique changes into other people (apparently into their clothes too) so what need does she have for clothing, none. Psylocke does some shit with psionic blades, why she wearing stockings and a one piece swimsuit?

Basically, my only semi-congruent complaint is for the visual choices to make sense, in terms of story, function, style, whatever, and not just an arbitrary design by an illustrator.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 12 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Aren't super female protagonists and antagonists supposed to be over the top scantily clad and attractive?

So tell me again how they are going to sell comics when all the female characters look like Amy Farah Fowler? Are they all going to be sexually repressed, desperate, needy and have self esteem issues?

[–][deleted] 15 points16 points17 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Aren't super female protagonists and antagonists supposed to be over the top scantily clad and attractive?

No. It's important they represent real women. They need to be middle-aged, overweight, and have no cultivated talents or skills. They need to be told they have the hardest job in the world, much like stay at home moms, and then be rescued by the buff cardiac surgeon who just returned from the rugged wilderness. Basically, turn comics for teenage boys into romance novels for women.

[–]Endorsed ContributorRedBigMan 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Dont they know the law of female armor as introduced by anime? The less it covers the more invincible she is. So running around wearing adamantium pasties means you can survive a tactical nuclear bomb at point blank range.

[–]ohsweetword11 points 12 years ago* [recovered] (2 children) | Copy Link

The Japanese have a much different view of women and sex than us. Much less corrupted by feminism... and down right weird. haha

[–]Nemester 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I took a japanese culture course in high school, and several hundred years ago (whenever it was they painted themselves white) it was basically standard practice for the beginning of courtship to start with the guy being a peeping tom. Basically he would go around trying to get a peak at her in her dad's house and would write her poems and she would (or would not) write him back. If she liked him she would let him get a peak. It wasn't some sort of fringe thing, that was the way it was done. It also coincided with the formation of hiragana because for some reason women weren't allowed to learn caligraphy, so they needed hiragana to be able to write the poems.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Interesting. If I were a Japanese father back in those times I would make it super hard to get to my daughters window. Only the strongest and most capable boys can peep on my daughter.

[–]ohsweetword5 points 12 years ago* [recovered] (2 children) | Copy Link

"Agreed entirely.I've always loved the concept of psylocke, but i can't bring myself to read issues where she's a focus. Here whole design is just embarrassingly juvenile and needlessly sexualized. Same goes for wonder woman. Cool hero and i'd really like to read more about her but the 'sex appeal' of her character is powerfully embarrassing."

How can these losers handle the concept of a real woman's ass and tits if they can't even handle looking at fantasy women in comics?

And the idea that they are ashamed to be reading comics because of the portrayal.... apologizing for what they should see as a simple escapism, it's beyond pathetic. I guess they think some girl will appreciate them for their "moral" stance and gift them with attention.

[–]redpillshadow 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

They are just full of shit. As if they would start reading wonder woman given a character redesign.

[–]MockingDead 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Meh. I never read superhero comics. Let them take over. See how fast the money drains.

[–]Endorsed ContributorrebuildingMyself 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Men are migrating away from television because of this every same infection.

[–]SigmaMu 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Obviously the movies have completely outstripped paper comics in relevance and profitability. If Marvel wants to really put their money where there mouth is, let's see them drop a superheroine movie, you know, like Catwoman or Elektra.

[–]LasherDeviance 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Elektra is Marvel. And they did her flick 12 years ago. Catwoman just sucks.

[–]BruceIsTheBatman 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

It's not so much that Feminists are taking over traditional comics, it's the ones who are trying to turn comics into more of a respectable story-telling art form.

[–]Endorsed ContributorrebuildingMyself 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Why does it have to be "respectful"? As long as there's no illegal content, why can't the free market handle it?

[–]BruceIsTheBatman 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It doesn't have to be, but lot of "artsy" people are skittish when it comes expressing themselves through what is considered a very low brow art form. These people like comics (they'll probably say graphic novels) but don't want to be associated with all the kitsch.

[–]DisNameInUseByMe 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

This may be downvoted, but I believe both sides are missing the point.

How a comic character is drawn shouldn't be about feminism and politics. It should be about telling the story.

Is the character a reserved, conservative woman? Then yes, it would be appropriate to portray her as modestly dressed and not overly sexy.

Is the character a bit of a seductress and/or does she use her sexuality to her advantage? Then obviously it makes sense to portray her as scantily clad with tight fitting clothes and good tits.

When you bring politics in to things like this is just fucks it up, and although the feminists may have somewhat of a point (provided that they're accurate in stating that female characters are drawn overly provocatively - I dunno, haven't read one in a while), inevitably they're just going to fuck it up by going too far and the most important part - the effectiveness of telling the story - will be totally forgotten in lieu of some politically correct BS.

[–]santaincarnate 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

There's only one woman-centred comic you need to read

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Oh no 13 yr old boys wont be semen-gluing the pages of their comics together as much as before...so?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

TIL why Marvel started sucking.

Oh well. I mostly read horror comics anyway.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Aren't comic books kind of a loser thing to begin with? Or am I brainwashed by media to think so..

[–]ohsweetword2 points 12 years ago* [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

It's associated with being a geek and an outsider. But it's pretty mainstream these days with the movies and tv shows that sell geek culture.

It's a good point. Put down the comics and go work out.

But there are some great adult fictions out there in comic book form. Full of sex, violence, and very interesting ideas. Like the watchmen ect.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Cant always be working out and every single one of us takes some time to themselves every now and then.

I dont really see a difference between a movie, game, comic book or any other procrastination for that matter.

[–]RC_5213 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Depends on what you read, I guess.

I don't do comics on the whole (I much prefer reading books), but even I have found a couple of series that I enjoy reading.

[–]hermit087 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Comics, much like video games, are pretty much for losers. However these kinds of stories are still significant and TRP related because they demonstrate how women always seek to take away some of the few consolation prizes that beta males have in their lives, such as having some nice asses to look at in comics and video games. The thought of beta's being able to enjoy beautiful women in any way, shape, or form is repulsive to them.

[–][deleted] 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

[permanently deleted]

[–]hermit087 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm actually quite a nerd myself, so I'm not trying to sound like some kind of badass talking down to people. Its just people with high testosterone hobbies and personality traits tend to do better with women. Certainly anybody can benefit from TRP, since much of it has to do with avoiding being taken advantage of by women.

[–]Nemester -3 points-2 points-1 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Great point. Have an upvote.

[–]life036 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Meh, to be fair, I'd probably agree with them if I cared about comics.

If I want tits and ass I'll watch a porno. I wouldn't want cheap, lame-ass side-boob teases that add nothing to the comic.
