But today, fathers are figures of fun more than figures of respect: The schlubby guy with the flowered diaper bag at the mall, or one of the endless array of buffoonish TV dads in sitcoms and commercials. In today's culture, father never knows best.

Holy shit this rings so true.

Marriage can't be enforced. It is the only legal contract that can be unilaterally dissolved by one party while simultaneously keeping the other party legally obligated under penalty of civil and criminal sanctions for up to 19 years.

So true. Even if you completely trust your potential wife, what kind of idiot signs a contract that only obligates your side, and has such harsh penalties if the contract is broken... no matter which side breaks it? You don't have to be a nobel prize winning economist to understand that you're giving control of your life to a woman and a system that are incentivized to use it against you.

Even with a bullet proof prenup, some judges roll out the artillery.

Always nice to see evidence of men waking the fuck up. Especially on a mainstream website.

[–]betaprime 9 points10 points11 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Wouldn't call Huffington op eds mainstream since they get paid fuck all. If this had been an nyt op ed or a guest on Oprah, I'd say we are in the mainstream.

I heard Dr. Smith yesterday on the Tom Leykis show, and she is the definition of red pill. Now I want to buy her book...

[–]MrStinky 2 points3 points4 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

My copy came in the mail Monday

[–]spiralings 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Ah democracy

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If that happens I'm gonna be a traveling bum. For sure not gonna force me to get married.

[–]__var -1 points0 points1 point 13 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Married people do pay less tax, and there are tax breaks for having children. (At least in Ontario).

[–]betaprime 6 points7 points8 points 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Google the marriage tax

[–]__var 3 points4 points5 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Thanks, my assumptions were incorrect it seems.

Feminism killed the west, well done feminazis.

[–]neilmcc 19 points20 points21 points 13 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Men expecting women to behave like adults created feminism.

[–]rapscallionx 11 points12 points13 points 13 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I actually think that beta men constantly pandering to women created feminism.

[–]Endorsed ContributorrebuildingMyself 2 points3 points4 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yep. White knights

[–]ekjohnson9 3 points4 points5 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Hence it's a shit test. They take what they can get away with, or in the case if the beta class, anything and everything.

They are shooting themselves in the foot but they're all too high on "feeling liberated" to give a shit.

[–]Endorsed ContributorrebuildingMyself 6 points7 points8 points 13 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

That's because daddy government will always be there to bail them out of their own problems. Men will pay one way or the other. I'm just waiting for the bachelor tax. The health care system just got a man tax to support women.

[–]TRP Vanguard: "Dark Triad Expert"IllimitableMan 1 point2 points3 points 13 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

The health care system just got a man tax to support women.

I don't live in the US, can you elaborate more? Sounds interesting.

[–]Endorsed ContributorrebuildingMyself 2 points3 points4 points 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Obamacare just banned the concept of insurance companies charging women more for insurance despite the fact they are more expensive to cover. Add to this any other women-only perks such as birth control covered by insurance, this essentially means men are subsidizing women for their health care.

Now that this is in place, there will be non-stop pressure (AKA political nagging) to cover even more women-only services. Abortion, breast cancer, etc.

[–]TRP Vanguard: "Dark Triad Expert"IllimitableMan 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's kinda poetic because when driving men are charged more for the fact they are more expensive to cover and there is no institutionalised male rights lobby to bitch and nag to get the women subsidising our car insurance, in fact if that even happened they'd probably start using logic and statistics showing men crash more/drive faster, yet on the reverse foot "they're victims" for using up more health care and thus shouldn't pay more even though they take more. Pah. Makes you want to cringe at the injustice.

accurate depiction of the choices men have.

[–][deleted] 11 points12 points13 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

video games, cable TV, and the Internet provide entertainment that didn't used to be available. Is this good for society? Probably not, as falling birth rates and increasing single-motherhood demonstrate. But people respond to incentives. If you want more men to marry, it needs to be a more attractive proposition.

the reasons i've been given to get married are just emasculating shame tactics and threats: "you're just a man-boy if you never propose to your woman." and, "no woman would stay with you if you don't propose, and you'll die alone."

studies show that incentives work far better than threats or punishment. i doubt that society will incentivize marriage for men, though; tax and civic laws will likely continue to bleed and penalize unmarried men instead. big feminism knows it's right and has gone to far to admit any mistakes now.

Wow this was a good read. I've got the red pill 95% of the way down (the hardest part has already passed), but I have a few guy friends that I am trying to "convert." Dr. Smith's book will absolutely be one of the tools I shall be using to show the truth to my friends.

On a side note, I've found "The Misandry Bubble" and "Why are we here?" from the sidebar to be two effective pieces of literature that go down fairly well and aren't too hard to process for blue pillers.

EDIT: This is a really good audio "interview" that exemplifies a lot of these reasons enumerated by Dr. Smith. I found it from someone in TRP community, so some of you may have heard it before.

i wonder when the % of gay men married will be higher than % straight men married

on a % basis it's not an unlikely outcome in the next 50 years.

Falling birth rates? How many more people do we need on this earth?

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The Art of Manliness blog mourns "The Decline of Male Space," and notes that the development of suburban lifestyles, intended to bring the family together, resulted in the elimination of male spaces in the main part of the house, and the exile of men to attics, garages, basements - the least desirable part of the home.

This touched me, although I come from entirely different circumstances. Being a Budapester my fairly poor grandpas and great grandpas didn't have anything like a male space in their small apartments. A smoking or trophy room was out of question.

But just as the AoM article mentions there was a thriving male-only social life centered around the barber shop, the bar, the betting office and the car workshop which was a bit like a shared hackerspace...

Women seemed to have lost the same things - formerly there were many small shops working as gossip mills, sewing material shop to spices shop, now in the age of large, heartless grocery store chains this ended too. In rural life women came together in the evenings to make hemp canvas - and the canvas-making-house as the No. 1 gossip mill and social life.

Was there a point in having spaces for gender segregated social life? Well, all I can say is that both genders liked it.

Another woman is sounding the klaxons. Now, it's just a question of when all the other women will listen...

Her interview on Tom Leykis was some of the best material and information leykis has ever participated in. She was on yesterday and the conversation was chock full of great information.

[–]watersign 2 points3 points4 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

anyone who would give up being single and gainfully employed along with a strong sense of mental well-being deserves to get married!!

[–]dontsuckbeawesome 1 point2 points3 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

She totally bypassed the issue of domestic abuse, e.g. Duluth Model, men are expected to just take physical/emotional abuse, etc. I think that would've been an important point to add.

[–]Endorsed Contributorburningtimber 4 points5 points6 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This really hits the nail on the head.

Now some things I didn't see in her list:

  • Modern women are promiscuous, and won't make good wives. Even if all the social problems (divorce, child support, etc) were fixed, they would be unhappy wives, trapped economically.

  • Marriage worked best when the man earned the money. Today the woman often earns more than the man. We know the bad effect this has on marriage.

Oh it's my favorite.. huffington.
