Got a tricky one yesterday and I bombed it.

Wife works night, I work at home, sometimes the kiddo hangs out with me during the day while the wife sleeps. Prior experience is that the wife, if she wakes up too early, will blame the first thing she sees or hears as the cause of her restlessness.

Yesterday she comes down around lunchtime (way too early) complaining that she's been up for an hour becauae of the kids noise and cant go back to sleep. At that moment they were sitting in the kitchen (talking, but reasonably quiet) because I had just called them in to eat lunch. Like a dumbass, I pointed this out and that she could confirm it by consulting the handy dandy security system (the Ring system is awesome btw).

That hamster galloped hard as she clarified that she actually woke up to pee initially but couldn't fall back asleep because of the kids after they came in. Amused and quick on the math draw, I asked what was to blame for her not falling asleep for the 45 minutes between when she peed and when the kids came back in.

Having just murdered her hamster, she gets angry and shifts to all she wanted was for me to show some support, be a partner, etc.

Fuck, that was a comfort test and "sorry, not getting enough sleep sucks," would probably have sufficed. But now her heels are dug in and shes demanding I accept her frame/truth and apologize for her not being able to sleep. I can't honestly give that apology.

Anyway, autodread is switched on this morning as I'm boarding a plane for a short (2 days) trip to Mexico. When I get back I'll give her a big hug, tell her shes my girl, and take her to bed.

Until then, what to do? Do I play nice over text or phone or just let her sweat it out?
