Society is simply built within the confines of our human nature, or rather to aid our human nature.

It's enabled us better access to food and shelter, while minimizing threats to our life to enable us to pursue sex, the passing of our genetic material.

Our ability to override our inherent programming came with the cognitive revolution, followed by the agricultural religion, which spawned religions over animist beliefs.

Religion, in any shape or form, allowed us to co-operate on a much larger scale, for a common purpose. To operate under this banner however, required repressing our inherent nature personally for the betterment of the whole.

As natural selection does, those who were poor at co-operating on a large scale were ostracized and bred out, whilst those proficient continued to breed.

Essentially, we have been repressing our human nature for centuries, the only difference now is the penalties for not doing so are far less, aided by societies becoming less and less religious and the birth control pill.

We're now moving back to a more liberal sexual society where men and women are enabled in pursuing their inherent behavior. The most capable, fit men and women get to mate while those less capable do not.

Those not succeeding, or getting the results that are not in line with their inherent programming are going MGTOW or feminism. They are certainly repressing their inherent desires however we have engineered alternatives to atleast mildy satisfy them, such as the dildo, prostitutes, or sex robots.

It's never quite the same, but may allow someone to enjoy themselves enough to have a somewhat of a fulfilling live. Personally, I find life infinitely better when I am able to competently satisfy all of my biological urges.

Humans have jumped on grenades, used themselves as human shields, or put themselves in fatal situations to protect others. If we can override the survival instinct, I think its possible to overcome lesser programming

Depends what you mean by “jailbreaking” those instincts.

Can they “turn them off” ? No.

Can they subvert them by “outwitting” them ? Yes. As we do (for example) when having sex (and getting all the good feelings our instincts assign to that activity) whilst using contraception (which subverts the instincts purpose in making you feel good when you have sex, which is to produce copies of your genes).

Can you ignore them ? Yes. As you do when you get angry and really feel like punching your boss in the face, but refrain for fear of the repercussions.

The instincts are genetically programmed in. It’ll be hundreds or thousands of years before they could be programmed back out again (and it’s unclear we could do so even if we wanted to).. and the beneficiaries will be those generations thousands of years in the future, not you (even if you lived that long).

That doesn’t mean in any way that we’re “done for” or that feminists or MRAs couldn’t get their way here or there on any issue.

Only that where they do so, and it’s against the innate instincts most of us share, they’ll succeed in both getting what they want and making millions of people slightly more unhappy than they were previously when they get what they want.

Literally what makes us human and not animals is using reason and self control to overcome base instincts.

We did, hovewer, drastically change the environment we live in through technology(agriculture and industrial revolution being the two PPD-relevant ones) which changed how our genetic programming applies.

Of course we can and we do so every day.

My appetite wants me to eat all the things, I don't because I don't want to be fat. So I go hungry at times to avoid this.

Murder is natural to humans. There are people I wouldn't mind killing. I don't because its a rather stupid thing to do for many reasons, so I use my higher functions not to.

I used to get very jealous over anyone trying to hit on my wife, like really jealous, this is a natural mate protection thing. We are now swingers, which took some mental adjustments and deprogramming those instincts.

You can over ride about any instinct if you really want to. Making your genes happy does seem to make people happier, but you can be a self flagellating mute monk if you so choose.
