The recent rash of rape and sexual harassment allegations something like the slew of mass shootings in America and I've become inured to both. Anyone else feel similarly?

You know the book deals usually only apply to the rape cases that involve famous women or women who are the right sort of victim. Or any instances that recieved extended media attention.This does not occur for every fenale rape victim ever. Also it's usually men raping other men. And if it bothers you so much start campaigning against it. Make it a movement that people can't ignore.

When men are raped or are victims of sexual violence, nobody, almost never, gives men a platform to discuss what happened to them. Hardly any men are given book deals, or speaking engagements, or given made for television movies focusing on men whoa are victims of rape or sexual violence.

who is stopping men from writign books abotu this, making a big deal out of this, forming organizations to make a big deal out of it, stopping them from making documentaries about it and opening non profits devoting to helping men with it?

it doesn’t sound like this has anything to do with the frequency with which you’re hearing about these things; you would feel this way if it were one headline or a million.

as for the rest of the post (not involving your personal experience), i second Electra_Cute’s comment; this post is insane. the daily lives of men (or people in general) do not equate to the experience of being raped.

That's because there are fewer men interested in hearing about the sexual and emotional traumas of fellow men than there are women interested in hearing about those of women (at least when it comes to abuse that happened as an adult; I think there's more of a market for child abuse memoirs.) Depending on your perspective, women seem to either find more comfort in that sort of community support or are affected disproportionately by this sort of thing, making them a more viable market. It's not empathy that rules who gets these deals but rather what will sell the best.

Perhaps, just maybe, when a woman is raped, she is beginning to have an idea of what life is like for men - the difference is she gets a book deal.

Leaving aside the point that others made that most women who have been raped aren't given the kind of attention that you're suggesting, rape is not equivalent to what life is like for the typical man. I'm a man who had a pretty awful childhood myself, and it's something that I've accepted that very few of my peers can relate to, men no more than women.

Sleepers

If anyone wants to see a movie about male victims of sexual violence this is a good start. It also has an amazing cast.

But there's also plenty of movies that feature prison rape or other male oriented traumas like bullying, war, gang violence, etc

No one is stopping those books or movies from being produced. Men can talk about it if they want and as we've seen with the positive response to men coming forward using #metoo now is the best time to do so.

It's not that no one cares about men as victims. It's just that toxic masculinity is preventing men from speaking up, but those toxic ideas are dying out more and more.
