People see what they want to see. Fantasy is easy to control, the truth is not.

In the case of women, take for example all of the marketing done during the Holidays. "He went to Jared" that sickening quote with those insipid commercials that play on men's fantasies that somehow if they go to Jared it's going to open the magical door to love and if your man didn't go to fucking Jared he's an asshole who just doesn't love you enough. God those commercials make me sick...

I might get downvoted a lot for this but I wonder if this is what PUA and other movements made to improve the lives of men do. PUA shows an asian guy with a pretty looking blonde by his arm and tells men that all they need is game and confidence to get her if they happen to look like that guy. It plays on the need of some men to break free from that stereotype of submissive beta male that society labels them as.

It plays on people's fantasies and promises them the world but tells them nothing of the hardships needed to get there.

To be honest, and I think it's pretty much common knowledge around these parts that I'm a big proponent of the 48 laws.. law 32 seems like a nuanced approach to law 27.

Play on people's need to believe.. Play to people's fantasies

What's the difference? people's need to believe = ideology/fulfil their assumptions on a macro political level. People want to follow someone, give them someone to follow.

What is a fantasy? It's kind of like "finding a man's thumbscrew" (another law) except it's the positive version of the thumbscrew, not the skeleton in the closet. You find out a man wants a threesome in Hawaii with a finger up his ass, you give him that, he's eternally grateful. To be honest, there's not a lot of difference between these two laws and I do believe they can be essentially merged.

Law 27 = find out what people want to follow, become that.

Law 32 = find out people's most intimate passions, give them that (or make them think you can give them that)

thumb screw law (law 33) = find out people's darkest secrets, blackmail them or imply an exposure of their weakness/secret/dirty deed to keep them in check.

There is only minor nuance to all of these things, when you begin to understand Machiavellianism as a more wholesome concept with overlap between certain areas of manipulation, these laws don't appear as disjointed and separate as they may do to your typical person. A lot of it is just a different angle, or an opposite (but not necessarily a reversal) if that makes sense.

Yup. Similarly, everyone thinks they're special. Confirm this for them and they will love you forever. People will go out of their way to stay in contact with/in good standing with people who treat them like they are one in a million.

Just worthy of a note: just remember, this isn't an excuse for something that might just be you, being wrong. This was mostly used to explain objective truths. Your worldview isn't among these hard truths.

Self awareness is key here.

Also, it's not the same as hamstering, in this case, we are describing telling people what they want to hear, to get what you want

I love this one. People will believe what they prefer to believe over anything else. Spin the illusion of grandeur and you will be treated accordingly. Men treat men the way they perceive others treat them. Watch any nobility or truly powerful man move through a crowded room. There's a reason UN representatives are always trying to be the last one to enter a room.

I respectfully disagree. Truth is the like dietary fiber of mankind, without it shit never moves forward. That said truth, like fiber, should to be palatable or else no one will consume it.

Oscar Wild said it best:

“If you want to tell people the truth, make them laugh, otherwise they'll kill you.”
