Edit: My saying that I'm ready to bite the bullet doesn't mean that I'm suicidal. Its my way of saying that I'm ready to start the next/tough chapter of my life. Sorry if I confused anyone.

Hello everyone,

I’ve been thinking very long and hard about seeking help from people here but I couldn’t gather the courage or the words to do it but here goes nothing. On a side note, I thought about posting this to /r/divorce, /r/askreddit, even /r/nofap but you guys are the ones where I felt the most amount of connection.

I’m 30 years old (turning 31 in less than 2 months) and got separated from my wife of 3 years, 4 months ago (she left me completely out of the blue; one minute we’re having dinner after coming home from work, next thing I know she’s telling me she’s leaving). I’ve been battling with this issue ever since then. There are some good days, mostly bad though.

My situation

I’ve always been the nice guy (father passed away when I was 3, my mother raised me). I always smile, try my very best to make everyone comfortable around me only to see that others always took me for granted. In my marriage, I did everything I possibly could to make my wife happy and comfortable.

When we got married, she used to look for hourly jobs on Craigslist and had a low self-confidence. I helped her find herself, daily motivational stuff, endless encouragement, made sure she spent time with her friends, the whole 9 yards. Just 3 months before she left me, she was making almost $60k/year…from making less than $30k/year before we got married. She was now the woman no one would’ve guessed she could become, full of life, full of confidence and then she left me. I think she used me to get to where she is now (but thats another post in itself)

Not just my wife, even my friends and colleagues. I helped my friends and colleagues in their tough times, I was always there for them. But now looking back, I don’t think they ever returned any of my phone calls unless they needed something. Just last week I organized a christmas party for a group of 20 people and no one even bothered to ask me how I was doing; they came, had dinner, enjoyed the party, said goodbye and just left. They’re all nice people but I am sick and tired of how they take me for granted. I’m always the one planning to go out on Friday after work with these guys, or any other get togethers, they never bother to arrange anything.

Perhaps, I’m always coming across as a needy individual, or someone who is beyond all this stuff who doesn’t need any love, or respect back from them.

Things I’ve tried

My first challenge was to decrease the amount of pain I felt from this whole separation ordeal. I read a lot of self-help books, tried /r/nofap for 30+ days, started meditating and working out. They all seemed to work initially but at times the pain was too much to bear. At one point I even decided to take the Art Of Charm weekly bootcamp but the $7000 cost is just too much for my to justify (I’m making $90k/year but $7000 is still a lot of money).

My biggest challenge

I really want to move on with my life, meet new people, make new friends who actually give a shit about me, ask me questions about my life, whats bothering me, how am I holding up…and meet women. I tried going out to a few bars but realized I don’t have the confidence to even hold a glass of beer in hand and not feel self conscious, talking to someone new is completely out of the question for now. To make matters worse, I’m 40-50lbs overweight (I’m 6’2’’ and weigh 270 lbs). I’m doing the 5X5 program but it’ll take a few months for me to see any results. I always think that if I approach any girl she’s just going to see a chubby almost divorced creepy guy.

My question What the fuck do I do? Are there any certain social exercises, steps I can take to move on with my life and feel confident? At times I think that I’ll be okay in social situations once I lose all the weight but then get depressed thinking that it’ll take at least a few months and what the fuck would I do in that period?

Sorry, I don’t even think I made any sense with what I wrote…but, if you could give me any piece of advice, I would really appreciate it. I just want to go my own way, enjoy my life, feel confident, meet new people and not feel any self-pity.
