Do you really think men could rape willy-nilly and it was totes ok? If you rape a woman under the protection of another man (father, partner, brother, etc.) there is a high chance they would outright kill you in return. You would need a highly hierarchal society with you towards the top to be able to get away with fucking other women against most men's moral codes.

Saying women go for the most alpha of men is like saying men go for the hottest, craziest bitches. Women want a reasonable combination of alpha and beta, but if only the two extremes are present they will go for alpha if they want love and beta if they want security. It’s like men putting up with the crazy insecure BPD woman for sex because she’s also really hot.

You need to frame out this question better.

"Prehistoric times", okay.

We're going to assume hard core tribalism, small groups of inter-related people of several generations living within close proximity to one another for their entire lives, working as hunter/gatherers. We're also going to assume living life on a knife's edge. Starvation, accidents, disease, and every other threat imaginable kept death a daily possibility.

This tribe cannot get too large or it cannot feed itself off the land. Consider it like a neighborhood or VERY small town that you are born into and never get to leave. You are probably related in some way to about half of the people there. Everyone knows everything about everyone else and you all rely on one another to get enough food so you don't fucking starve.

In that scenario, how prevalent do you think rape would be?

Do you really believe in that scenario we lived like apes and that the boss man had a harem, or did we live like a community where there were behavioral norms and respect for each other's autonomy and person?

It doesn't have to be one or the other, BTW.

Men raped women they wanted, especially the stronger alphas, and women threw themselves at the stronger alphas too.

I'd think the first one is true, if only because the trauma of getting raped is not usually conducive to sustaining a pregnancy from it. Think about it...severe mental and emotional distress, genital tearing, bleeding, potential sexual diseases, physical harm from being held down and quite possibly beaten into "submission". Not to mention that miscarriages and death through childbirth were significantly more common in the past than they are now.

I could be wrong, but it just doesn't seem feasible that we'd see enough offspring from rapes to affect our entire species.
