Few issues. You don't take population into account. The US has a population of about 319 million. Congo has about 82 million. That would be 15 rapes per 10,000 people in the US versus 45 per 10,000 people in the Congo. Secondly, the study on the campuses here include many things that are not rape. I didn't check your Congo numbers, but I doubt they are using the same definitions. Lastly, I am suspect of such numbers coming out of a lawless state. Being lawless and all, I doubt they had a good way to collect them.

I have a couple questions. Do you know how that second source is defining rape compared to the first one? Are you comparing percentages/rate of rape or are you comparing actual numbers?

Your source for US college students say 1 in 5, but your source for the Democratic Republic of the Congo says 2 in 5. How can you say the rate in US colleges is 20% higher?

First of all, if that number were correct, people wouldn't send their daughters to college. Also, there would be some colleges with less risk and some with more risk, so there would be some colleges with a 2 in 5 chance, while others would 'only' be a 1 in 10 chance. Women would choose colleges based on this.

I don't hear anyone choosing a college based on rape statistics.

Also, Congo doesn't have Affirmative Consent, so if a woman is drunk or regrets it in the morning, it is not counted as a crime in the Congo, whereas in the US, it is.

That 1/5 statistic has been discredited by a few people already due to the limitations of the study.

Interestingly enough though, if it were true, the US would look even worse because college students are less likely to be raped than the rest of the population.

I feel it might be higher but one issue is reporting. I'm not sure how often it's reported, I mean, you hear stuff about it being under reported in the States, I can't imagine how under reported it would be in Congo.

I've seen this number from many surveys and such to the point it seems to be an issue. So, instead of, oh, well how can it be real of its less then other countries, why don't we instead ask why that is and how we can change this.

Well, according to wikipedia 2015 population statistics, the USA also has 300% more people, so a 20% increase in rape would not necessarily surprise me on paper.

That being said, the whole 1 in 5 rapes on college campus thing has been debunked a million years ago, and even by Christina Hoff Summers herself on multiple occasions. It relies on second parties reinterpreting events to fit a narrative that the "victim" themselves didn't actually feel or consider.

On top of that, sexual assault and rape are two different things. Sexual assault is, more often than not, "a man I'm not attracted to touched me in a way I didn't like because I'm not attracted to him, and want him punished for invading my space", where as rape is "he put his wiener in my vagina when I explicitly made my lack of consent known, and did it anyway".

Using the word "rape" is very harsh. It makes it sound like Khal Drogo giving the big one to a slave girl.

Sexual assault is very common. It can come in many ways, shapes or forms: pressured sex, too scared to say no etc.

1 in 6 women in North America will be sexually assaulted in their lifetime, and it can be even higher than that.

Do you think its possible the US has a rate of rape dramatically higher than African countries with basically no laws?

It's the nature on relying on exaggerations and hyperbole to make your point come across. You have to keep shouting louder with increasigly extreme statements for them to garner notice. Soon we'll have surveys which conclude that 143% of women are raped three times each days on colleges.
