Poor impulse control would suggest that someone wasn't going to do X, but did it anyway when the moment presents itself because that person couldn't resist the impulse.

So a woman who goes out and thinks to herself "Let's just see what tonight will bring me" and ends up in a strangers bed doesn't have poor impulse control. Or maybe she does, but the aforementioned scenario doesn't have anything to do with that.

Can I go on a tangent? My husband and I both have our motorcycle licenses, though I don't often ride. In the riding community, I see a huge number of young men with poor impulse control, who ride dangerously and without adequate protective gear. But I equally see a lot of level-headed men, often older, who are careful to minimise risk and ride safely. It seems like poor impulse control just has more obvious consequences when motorcycles are involved. Not all motorcycle riders are like that! ;)

To me, anyone who choose to cheat and commit adultery do it because they are weak and they cannot control themselves. If you do not like your significant other, be straight, tell them, and break up.

Now if you are single, then how many people you fuck is your business and none of our concern. The exception is if you try to lie about it to someone who shows interest in you.

I think bad impulse control is a reasonable assumption when you hear reasoning like sex that "just happened" (and its million variations) – which a hell of a lot of women do a hell of a lot.

Poor impulse control in this sense probably means that they are inclined to do things that are good in the short run but bad in the long run. This can lead you to do all sort of things, like getting fat (you eat food because it tastes good, ignoring the fact that it is unhealthy) or cheating (you allow it to "just happen" disregarding the fact that it might destroy your marriage). If it is true that fat women have higher n-counts, then it is entirely possible that the same quality of their character that is responsible for their fatness is also responsible for their promiscuity.

If we assume that promiscuity is bad for women, then it's entirely possible that slutting it up is a result of poor impulse control, since you choose the temporary gratification of sex over a long-term benefit. Why would promiscuity be bad for women? That is a hard question, but one reason might be that having sex often makes it harder to play hard to get, which is a tactic often successfully employed by women - by having sex early on you make men less inclined to chase you and pursue a relationship. Since women are the gatekeepers of sex and sex is their bargaining chip, you lose by giving it away too easily. Another reason could be that a woman who is promiscuous instead of pursuing a relationship is not ensuring a good, stable future for herself.

With regard to the motorcycle example, I don't think that bikers necessarily have "poor impulse control" - it is entirely possible that living an adventurous life is simply a better choice for them. However it is also possible that their need for adventure is a quality that should be avoided if you want a stable partner, since it might lead to premature death or doing other silly things.

I'm going to counter.

I don't think most women go out with the intent to have sex, like ever.

Most women who end up having a random casual "make out session" or even worse "sex!" typically get "caught up in the moment."

They didn't leave their house expecting there would be someone hot enough to even make them want to think about sex or physical intimacy. They left their house to have fun with their friends and at some point during the night, some person comes around an inspires an impulse... lust.

So when she does get caught up in the moment because she's "hot and bothered," I suppose it is lacking impulse control if she chooses to not stop.

Women's promiscuity is usually carefully planned. They can control their impulses perfectly fine. They just can't control their fundamental nature to constantly seek out alpha males, and potential upgrades. It is also part of why they are more social than men - recon.

It is not poor impulse control. It is largely absent nature control, especially under modern feminist laws regarding divorce.

I define poor impulse control as:

Repeatedly making poor or high-risk decisions
Without reasonable safeguards
In the spur of the moment (i.e. the primary rationale at the time of the decision is "I want it now")

I'm not overly familiar with motorcycles, so I'll use a similarly high-risk activity from my own life: Rock climbing. Even climbing in the relatively controlled environment of a gym constantly exposes you to risk of serious bodily injury and death. Unexpected dangers aren't rare (e.g. a hold twisting or pulling off completely) and you're frequently climbing with or around relative novices. Outdoor climbing is even more risky -- falling rock is a real danger, non-professionals are generally setting up the gear, and help is significantly farther away. Yet I don't consider my participation in this activity to demonstrate poor impulse control because although (1) I'm repeatedly making high-risk decisions I'm (2) anal about safety and (3) only began climbing after a reasonable amount of research and a careful consideration of the risks and rewards.

Contrast this with a high-partner count woman. It's almost impossible to become a high-partner count woman without (1) repeatedly making poor or high-risk decisions. A significant number of one-night stands are almost always involved -- in addition to the health risks of sex with any unfamiliar partner, a ONS also brings heightened risk of sexual assault or rape. ONSs also generally occur in party environments, which generally involve risky behaviors associated with alcohol/drugs/driving under the influence/etc. Beyond ONSs, racking up partners is a risk to a woman's reputation (even if you're fine with it, others will judge you, and that judgement can be meaningful) and her future happiness (whatever your rationale, it's impossible to deny that a large percentage of men view high partner counts as unattractive). Finally, there's often the risk of sacrificing an excellent relationship with a current partner for the chance at something different/something better with someone else. What turns this from "risky" into "poor impulse control" is (2) lack of reasonable safeguards (condoms/birth control don't apply to half of what I listed) and (3) spur-of-the-moment decision making (rarely does a woman have the conscious goal of racking up partners; generally, repeated short-term decisions lead to that outcome).

TL;DR: Reasonable safeguards and spur-of-the-moment decision making separates risky behavior from poor impulse control. Most high-partner count women don't use reasonable safeguards and make decisions in the spur-of-the-moment.

I'm not sure I equate risk-taking behavior with the kind of poor impulse control that was being discussed in the earlier post. The risk-taking behavior requires agency, it seems to me. The sort of lack of impulse control exhibited by a certain kind of promiscuous woman is actually typified by a lack of agency.

To be specific: Most (>70%) of the women I have had sex with had sex with me after a drink or two and I was there. They just kinda said, "Yeah, I'd like to fuck right now." They did precisely this with many, many other men. They always picked up the candy at the cash register. I just happened to be on the display at the right moment.

You're right risk taking doesn't necessarily mean poor impulse control. Its probably correlated but it doesn't cause risk taking. Poor impulse control comes into play when you know something is bad for you but you do it anyways.
