To all those saying it is fiction, yeah you are right. However, it is a big budget (for TV) series with well known actors/actresses and great reviews from fans and critics. The people writing/directing/producing the show are people with some influence in the business of TV and they are pushing the message that in that world strength is rewarded and weakness is punished. Because of the popularity of the show, I have to believe on some level many people agree with that view.

Yeah, the TRP teaching that women love respect based and men love "protection" based is true.

Rob a woman of her feeling of respect for him and she will fall out of love. Rob a man of the feeling that he she needs him and he will fall out of love.

I was talking to a female friend not long ago. She had broken up with her boyfriend (they had been together for years) and she was devastated. She missed the good times and was asking "why can't I love him anymore."

I asked her if she really wanted to know, she said yes, and I explained the above mentioned concept to her and gave her many examples where she had had to take over the protector/provider role for her boyfriend. (Like for example, there were problems with his appartment, but he didn't confront the landlord, so she did). I also explained to her how she made it hard for him to love her, because she never gave him the feeling that he was needed, so the relationship had been doomed for quite a while.

She cried and nodded in agreement.

Yeah, but as I recall from the series, Gannicus was crucified for his role in the rebellion. I actually preferred the original with Kirk Douglas to this monstrosity.

It was kind of interesting in the later parts where the slaves were in revolt under Spartacus' command, and the women were trying to size up which of the men had higher status in the pecking order. It's been a while since I've seen it. Quite gruesome and graphic in parts.

Are you really skipping over the part that Gannicus and Melitta are both slaves and were commanded by their masters to have sex in front of a group for sport?

That their affections were forced, and not natural?

Seems like a huge cop out to me.
