The antagonist, Joe, let's Furiosa drive the most important vehicle in his fleet on missions of utmost importance...but why? What has Furiosa done to earn that title? Why should Joe trust her with that role over one of his loyal 'War Boys'?

I'm a screenwriter, and that's what we call sloppy story. Because here is no reason why Theron's character is in the driver seat. Her character exists to illustrate a specific point: that women can be badasses too. It's cheap writing that pandera to audiences rather than serving the needs of the story.

Contrast that with Ripley from Aliens. She's a woman in a harsh world and everywhere people doubt her ability to get te job done, because she's a woman. Her prior knowledge of the Alien species is what gets her into the fray (in the second installment). There's heaps of motivation and back story.

All Furiosa has is her 'redemption', whatever that means. I wonder how much thought Miller put into writing that one-liner?
