It's both. I'm unsure why this in particular would be unclear to you.

It seems to me that if you want to understand something and your concern is for truth than being alpha and the confidence that comes with it might actually be a hindrance. To really learn you need to open yourself up and be wiling to admit your faults and confusions immediately. This is my main objection to the "be alpha all the time" group. I do believe that alpha-ness has its place, but one does not alpha their way through Kant or general relativity.

I own however I am at any one time. Strengths and weaknesses. No one is all things at once. You can be assertive about that or you can be ashamed of it. Otherwise it would be like saying delegation and specialization negate the concept of leadership. The captain of a Navy ship doesn't know more about the reactor than the nukes who run it.

Want to bang that redhead in calc 1? Alpha-ness on. Confused by derivates? Alpha-ness off. What do you do if you redhead is the only one who understands derivates?

There is strength is asking for help. Seriously. If you maintain frame, you can get her to help with derivatives and open her at the same time. Win-win. Your preconception of "alpha" as "guy who never asks for help" is a strawman.

What would you call being in a state of improvement? I think that's why these terms are dumb. Any sort of improvement is a sort of admission that you needed to improve at that point, but it is still a good thing and it means you are bettering yourself.

If I go to the gym and work out, I am gaining more muscle. That means I'm coming from a place that is weaker.

If I go to class and learn, I am gaining knowledge. That means I'm coming from a place of ignorance.

Are neither of those alpha even though I have acquired more of something for myself? If improvement can not fit into your term as a good thing, then you need a new term.

Edit: If being alpha means being a leader, don't leaders continue to improve and get better as well?

I think the real thing that will get you laid, is just being a man. Most women like men who are like men, so be more masculine.

You weren't clear on what you meant by compartmentalizing. Assuming that I understand what you meant, I think it's necessarily a bad thing. Applying different strategies to differing life situations can be helpful.

The way I conceptualize Alpha is: be the best version of yourself. Which basically comes down to not being a victim and taking responsibility for your own life. When you take this responsibility it gives you a feeling of power and control over the outcomes in your life. You also can accept failure more easily. After all, there's always another day to try again and a different way.

TRP does not advocate this. Be who you are; accept it; love it. No one knows everything. Learn more every day; it helps to create happiness. Be honest with yourself and your limitations, but don't let others walk all over you. Just because TRP choose the responsibility of self directed action and happiness does not mean we are better at everything. We just refuse to be victims.

I don't feel compartmentalized. Whatever the reason you initially become alpha, it leads to a positive feedback loop that encourages the behavior. At some point, being alpha is just a better, more assertive version of yourself that women actually want to fuck them.

It is perfectly possible to be confident in admitting your faults. A lot of people establish rapport by admitting weakness. For example: Im not a Washington insider im just a humble local cowboy from Texas. Its very possible to admit weakness in a confident way.
