I am currently growing old with a woman ;)

To answer the second question: the qualities that she displayed that made her a good LTR prospect for me were: intellectual curiosity, conscientiousness & openness. And highly attracted to me (obviously).

Also, I wasn't deliberately filtering for this, but the fact that we had a commensurate amount of sexual experience (ie. none) probably helped us.

Also, don't forget the effect of wife goggles.

I always thought I'd get married and have a family.

Then I watched every single one of my friends end up divorced, most of them against their will.

Originally I asked how marriage got so broken, but eventually I started wondering how it even worked in the first place. Seems to me the high divorce rate really mirrors more accurately normal human behavior, and that life long commitments are the rarity.

So I ask myself, is this a realistic goal? Seems like even if I were dedicated to a life-long commitment, I would have a hard time finding a woman with the same enthusiasm. That's if I even stuck with it. From what I can see, there's a high chance I'd become just as bored or unhappy as everybody else. Is that fair to my future wife?

I think it would be better to phrase this for the TRPers who avoid marriage. It has always seemed like a 70/30 split of them.

Edit: Also, /u/danabanana9 is supposedly an older RPW with a (slightly older iirc) husband. I can think of one RP relationship that seems to be withstanding the test of time.

I do, but ideally, I think a man should marry a woman 4-10 years younger. Plenty of women still look good in their 40's and even 50's if they take care of themselves, so I'm not really worried about age souring the milk that much. When properly pair bonded I doubt age will be a major issue.

I don't plan for anything, if it happens in the future it happens, if not I'll not break down and cry about it. It's pretty far down on my todo list at the moment.

For a long-term relationship, there are many attractive qualities a woman should have beyond looks and youth. Intelligence, fidelity, social tact, empathy, mental resilience, creativity, etc.

BUT, call me superficial, but I do look at women's body-types. My grandparents retired in an old-folks home, so I know how women can turn out for real.

My first love when I was 3 years old was Ginger Grant from Gilligan's Island (Tina Louise). Sad to say, her body type evolution is creepy as shit to me. Can't go through with it.

Suspend your scientific disbelief a little bit and let's say there's 3 main body types: mesomorph, ectomorph, and endomorph. I cannot grow old with an ectomorph. Mesos and endos for me, thanks. But that's thinking just a little bit too far ahead...

I would like to, at one point I really wanted to get married, but look at the statistics these days and you'll see that lasting ten years never mind growing old together is the exception and no longer the norm.

I would love to. I am recently single. Realized that I can only be in a relationship with a sidekick instead of a 50/50 partner (my ex wanted more than 50 it seemed) - I am just too selfish to compromise my dreams. I wanna fuckin' take the transfer at work to South Korea, not stay here in the suburbs. I'm more purple than anything, but anyone who is going to be my "other" would need to put up with my desire to never have kids and to travel around the rest of my life. I may be single for life, but dammit, I wanna join the Peace Corps. They allow married couples - that would be cool. Maybe I can find a chick with the same dreams as me... Not sure if I am red pill or just selfish and adventurous.

Of course, I had always fantasized about growing old with someone else. But along the way I had to make the conscious decision to not allow that fantasy to leave myself vulnerable to spiritual & material ruin. In some sense, I see RedPill as the ritualistic murder of the "hope to marry" and the attendant sufferings that come with that hope.

I do but I can't see it happening, the divorce rte in my country is rising and it's generally female-initiated as my country is unashamedly pro-woman when it comes to divorce, in the last year a story broke where a man found out his children weren't his but the government has ruled he must pay child-support regardless, risks like that put me off.

Its not that I'm against that, I just don't think we live in a society that supports that kind of relationship. Why would I swim upstream when their are easier options available?

If I ever want to grow old with a woman, it will have to be with a woman I find attractive. I just happen to not find old women attractive, so I scratch them off my list. If she is exceptional and RPW, I'll likely spend an indeterminate amount of years with the bitch, but I suspect that no woman is perfect and she will let herself go or some other flaws might come up. At that point, I'll look elsewhere.

I'm really no different than the mindset of a typical woman, except what's attractive for us is different.
