Hello, I am a 21F and my boyfriend is a 22M. We have been dating for about a year, and I truly love and care about him so much. There are so many things I like about him, he goes out of his way to do almost anything for me, he makes me laugh, and I am really comfortable around him. However, there have been things that have been bothering me, that I never really have been bothered by early on in our relationship but yet it bothers me now. Conversationally, we can joke around a lot and act dumb together and we laugh a lot about things. We're both pretty rational people, however sometimes I feel like we aren't that compatible when talking about more "serious" stuff. He doesn't look engaged or contribute much to the conversation when I talk about topics that interest me, but he will listen. I just wish he would give his opinion on stuff that I find interesting. Also, I feel like I am a pretty adventurous person. Whenever I am with my close group of friends, I am always the one to suggest that we go on spontaneous trips or to do fun activities. That's why I began to date I was hoping to find a partner who would push me out of my comfort zone, someone that would help me from being complacent. However, he isn't really like that. I am the one to suggest to do things, and even though he is normally always up for it, whenever he plans dates its normally dinner plans and its always local and around the area. Whereas I wouldn't mind driving far and doing an activity for a date. I am always the one to suggest these things, and I really wish that he would suggest something fun and different because he wanted to, not because of me. Sometimes because I know the type of person he is, I don't want to suggest doing things that I like, because I don't want it to be forced. Even though he never makes me feel like I am forcing him, I am a people pleaser and I only like doing activities with people knowing that they enjoy and like doing them too.

I don't want to settle at all and the thought of settling scares me. This is my first boyfriend and I really don't have much experience with dating and relationships at all. I've talked to him about this but he thinks I am being unfair because he says he is always down to do things I like. However, I can't help but think that there could be someone out there that is innately like what I want, someone who is "easier" to date because they enjoy doing things that I like doing and someone who is on the same page conversationally about more serious topics.

Recently, I was slightly at my breaking point, and I felt so bad because there is honestly nothing wrong with him. He treats me really well, he is smart, he works really hard and does so so much for me. I suggested the idea of a break so I could think about things, and he broke down. He sobbed and said he would fight for me and wait for me even if he has to, because even though I may not feel like he is the best for me, he feels like I am the best for him. I just felt so so so extremely bad because even after I spilled and told him everything I felt, he was still so sure about me and honestly I didn't know why-I don't think I could be with someone who is uncertain about me. It's just hard because there is nothing wrong with him, he doesn't need to change because that's just who he is and there is nothing wrong with that. I am just more curious to see if there would be someone more compatible in terms of similar interests with me. We ended up talking about things and wanted to keep working things out because we both love each other. I just need advice because I am still curious. My heart hurts to think about leaving him. I'm scared of settling, but I don't know if it would be silly to throw something away when the person you're with loves you so much. I just don't have much experience with relationships at all because he was my first everything and it's hard to compare him to anything else. My friends who have been in multiple relationships tell me he is a really good guy, and I also take things for granted because he is my first boyfriend and I don't compare him to some of the shitty exes they have had. I wish I could appreciate him more, I although I am so grateful for everything he does for me, I can't help but think if some of the things I wanted in a boyfriend are dealbreakers. I can't tell and I rather break things off now if breaking up is inevitable, but yet I don't really know if it is. I just wish I was just more certain about things. I just don't want to make a mistake and for him to be the one that got away. That's why I ask, is love enough?
