Previous post for stats and context https://www.reddit.com/r/RPChristians/comments/93scuz/tell_gf_about_porn_relapse/

I haven't had any lapses with PMorO since the above post, meaning in the last 7 months I've failed once (looked at porn). I've been tempted many many more times, but either prayed and refocused my mind or stopped because of one of my other safeguards.

There have been several times though where a watched a YouTube video or some such because of a sexy thumbnail, so the intent was there and I would probably have failed then too if the video actually had anything in it.

So my GF (see linked post) and I have talked, prayed, and counseled with friends and family and we've decided we want to get married. I have no doubts in my mind that we are an excellent fit and that I've done my homework. I've asked for her parents' blessings and plan to propose in a couple weeks.

The only loose end is one friend advises me to get some kind of counseling to make sure I've kicked porn before I get engaged/definitely before marriage. The concern being that a lot of my recent success is due to feeling "in love" and after marriage that fades and we'll have conflicts, etc, and the temptation will return with a vengeance when I'm weakened.

I get his concern, and partially share it, but I think I've built good habits and defenses so that I'm tempted far less often, view sex as less of a need, and usually make the right move when I am tempted. (Time limit on YouTube, no video games, better diet, better sleep hygeine, habit of praying when tempted, habit of peeing when tempted to MO, etc)

Any thoughts on whether I'm in a good position to get engaged/married? I want to be wise, but not hem and haw forever because of fear of screwing up.

Thanks in advance!
