There are pros and cons to marriage, and though it’s worth it if you find the right person, it isn’t for everyone. If you have a genuinely loving relationship with someone, of course it isn’t a “trap.” But you shouldn’t be pressured into it either, so if your partner really wants to and you’re just going along with it b/c it’s a social norm, you probably shouldn’t get married. The marriages that end badly probably weren’t healthy relationships to begin with. Marriage is a partnership and both parties should make that decision enthusiastically and together.

Marriage is what you make of it. My wife and I both decided to do it together, no coercion. We share the financial burden, more or less, so she's not getting some great financial deal out of this.

Most Red Pillers are Conservatives, which means they want "traditional" relationships, but they also hate the natural result of traditional relationships, so they are a walking contradiction. They think women should be submissive to men, and stay home and take care of the home / raise children while they further their careers, but they also get mad that divorce judges have historically looked at these things when deciding alimony / etc. because it's actually not even remotely fair to put a woman in a situation where she is too busy taking care of the household / children to further her career, put a man in a situation where he can further his career, then break up the family and say hey, you're each on your own now. The system naturally looked to make sure the women who sacrificed a career for home duties would not end up screwed.

The solution to this, of course, is to stop worshipping traditional relationships and find different ways to approach relationships that allow women to also pursue their careers to the same degree men do, so in the case of a split they're both on equal footing and men don't have to end up supporting the women moving forward, but these dorks can't figure out that they're the root of their own problems, and embracing anything different would go against their moronic Conservative ideals.

The reasons people get divorced kind of vary depending on the source (also there's usually more than one reason a couple will divorce) but it boils down to the fact that many people shouldn't have gotten married in the first place. They're incompatible, not old enough, got married for the wrong reasons, and so on.

This doesn't mean you shouldn't get married at all. It means you should make yourself into a better person, into marriage material. You should wait until the right time. Wait until you find someone you trust. Communicate everything. And don't expect getting married to solve your problems, because it actually will amplify them.

If you still think that it's best to avoid marriage because you're afraid of the consequences... well, you do you. It's your life. Just me personally, I don't have much respect for people who are avoid dealing with issues and don't want to make themselves into better people. I think it's kind of cowardly.

If people can get married for the wrong reasons, I think it's safe to say people can avoid marriage for the wrong reasons too.

I think it's important to find a partner to have a family and spend your life with. But until the divorce laws are changed I'm never signing a marriage contract.
