Somebody commented that a British couple were sentenced to 3 months in jail after getting caught having actual sex on a beach in an Islamic state. 15 years in prison or 3 years in jail is just wild. It's not like they were naked having crazy sex, she prolly just pushed her bikini to the side and rode him a bit. How can a child know for sure what they're doing and how can that really affect him/her. Our whole culture is already over sexualized.

At most, they could be banned from the state for 3 or 5 years, but getting locked up is just wild.

I have to wonder about the jury decision and their assessment of mens rea. Did they have the knowledge and intent to be getting it on in front of a kid? I suspect not.

They crossed a line but the punishment is totally out of proportion. America and its justice system is a sick joke. My Canadian homeland is laughingly soft on criminals and here in China they don't mess around, but in neither case it is like waiting for lightning to strike.

What does one have to do with the other? (prior prison sentence and this case) Now if it was another drug charge I could see the difference holding some merit. However, as it stands it doesn't at best and smacks of double jeopardy at worst.

Dude was charged and sentenced to 15 years because he had a previous felony for drug trafficking.

According to Florida law, they can sentence someone to 15 years on a second offence, if under 3 years from release date. And apparently the Judges hit this home run in Florida all the time. Every time. To be fair the max they both should have gotten was a fine, and told to go get fucked somewhere else.

Clearly the Justice System is making an Example out of this case.

Your conspiracy doesn't hold water. Public decency laws have little to do with male repression. Generally, they are more restrictive of women in order to maintain their dignity such as topless laws, etc. Personally, if I'm at that beach, I don't want to see that. The only egregious violation is the prosecutor going after 15 years of taxpayer funding for something this inconsequential. Keeping this guy in jail that long will likely cost 200,000 dollars which is an abuse.
