Definitely go with something you know she likes, or that reminds you/her of a good time you spent together. Photos are priceless. Flowers and chocolates can be inexpensive too. Also, nothing compares to a sincere, handwritten card with a thoughtful, personal message.

Groupon photo books. I think snap fish has them for like $5 right now. Put in a bunch of baby pictures, pictures of the two of you, etc. You'll be the best daughter ever.

For Christmas I have sent my mom a card with a small poem made by myself. It made her tear up. It’s not the first time I’m doing it. Now every year she’s expecting poems on her birthday. If you’re not too good at them, you can always ask a friend or your partner for ideas and help.

Does she have any hobbies? Gift card to a local knitting store? You could call and buy it over the phone?
