I wish we could make posters to put up in high school hallways and dorms. We really do not educate young people enough on what is healthy in a relationship. Society just assumes all parents are capable of teaching this stuff.

It’s also important to have ALL of these. My ex was missing Trust and Accountability, and half of Support. He never apologized, and he always doubted me and thought of me as generally less capable than he was, with no reason. And while he supported materially, I was on my own if I needed emotional support, or if I got ill (he was a minimizer). Because he was mostly gentle and polite in demeanor, I excused the lack of respect elsewhere. I felt safe, we would cooperate, etc. But I always felt as though a big chunk of basic respect was missing. Years later I realize that what he did do, he did because it was his personality, and it had nothing to do with how me felt about me.

Also integrity: having upright moral character, having strong moral principles, doing what they said they were going to do.

So true. If he doesn’t have respect for you in some areas I.e. you only see it during conflict. Don’t assume that’s the only area and you cAn WoRk ThRoUgH iT, thinking “at least he’s not cheating.” Because it shows and overall lack of respect for you. Which will deep into other areas, including cheating, manipulating, and Lying. It’s not worth it.
