Researchers matched death records (where applicable) with all 20,745 participants of all genders in the data set. Of these, the researchers identified 22 suicides, 21 of whom were male. This small sample population is too small to draw major conclusions.”

While males who exhibited traits of high traditional masculinity had a higher risk of dying by suicide, they were 1.45 times less likely to report self-injury. Besides that, the traits that the study uses as a measure of “toxic masculinity” (risk-taking & fighting for example) makes me wonder if they’re measuring suicide by people with dysfunctional backgrounds better than they’re measuring suicide by men with toxic masculinity. If you compared women with desirable upbringings to women with dysfunctional upbringings, you’d probably find more risk-takers, fighters, and successful suicides in the latter group.

I want to latch onto this because it gets worse. TRP also discusses and even glamorizes the DT personality traits, which are: "Narcissism, Machiavellianism, and Psychopathy." Besides the fact that 2/3 of those are already WTF traits to idolize, to put it incredibly delicately, I do not recommend that strategy at all.

Coming from a medical standpoint, I see this a lot. Macho men are less likely to ask for help or follow care instructions then woman or less macho men. They "tough things out" more. They also hugely resist preventative care like prostate exams (that's gay) or replacing red meat and high fat foods (soyboy memes anyone?)

It follows that because of this isolation and unwillingness to take care of their mental and physical health they would end up in situations they deem as unfixable and take their lives.

Think about the definition of "toxic masculinity".

It doesn't mean being a masculine man, it means you are so fucked up that you can't define yourself, so you accept and internalize a rote set of instructions regarding what it mean to "be a MAN".

So you're full of shit, LARPing to the world that you really are a big boy now, just look at my tribal sleeve!

Men don't need symbols or definitions or discussions of what is "toxic". We do. We exist. We make our own way. We don't keep up on what beard oil makes us more of a man.
