Yanno, I thought I was pretty clever when, still in high school, I caught on to women like this and so avoided them my whole life. What I didn't realize is that ALL women have this obsession with material things. It's just that some women must aim lower because their SMV is too low to demand expensive things like designer handbags. But these lower SMV women sure as shit will demand you buy them some kind of useless shit that exceeds your monthly budget.

And here's the rub; if you buy the trinket for them, they won't respect you because you caved. If you stand your ground and say no, then they quietly hate you because you are not generous enough or are "controlling/abusive." So there's simply no winning. You have to go your own way. It's the only logical, sane choice.

I'm not sure how this differs from prostitution. As a Christian I'm against that, but if I didn't have those scruples and encountered this creature I would instantly understand that she's offering a transaction: you buy me this bag and I'll do XXX in return.

At that point "I'll do XXX in return" would need to be clearly spelled out. None of this, "I'll be your girlfriend," or "We can hang out." Nope: it would have to be very specific. What, where, how, and how long, and her pleasure would be, at best, a secondary concern: her reward is the bag.

And if she fails to meet my standards for appearance, skill, or enthusiasm, the transaction is off... take your Happy Meal and go.

Not that I would do any of that in the first place, but that's how transactions work.

Behavior like this is really common where I live (SF Bay Area), though usually not this blatant. You'll see tons of dating profiles where women at least imply they want an expensive gift on the first date or in advance of dating.

This is an extension of the "going out on dates for free meals" behavior. I think all women do this to some extent but one of my cousins was awful about this, she did this with most of her meals and would often "dine and dash". She was worse than most because she had this super-high metabolism and would usually get 2 or 3 dinners at a restaurant. She's from Europe and she loved eating out here in the USA because of the big portions.

The funny thing about stuff like LV bags is that I barely notice what sort of bag a wealthy, high-status woman carries. But poor women flaunting luxury goods stick out like a sore thumb to me when I'm out and about. I feel like I'm not the only one who's observed this.

Wealth has a lot to do with how you present yourself, but a lot of poor people buy into the cargo cult mentality of "if I own expensive things, I will look rich."

The wealthiest man I know dresses like I do, but he makes more in 45 minutes than I do in two years. It's (almost) all in how you carry yourself.
