This is why a good strategy for people in the friend zone (and I've heard Patrice O Neal talk about this too) is to just tell her (she knows anyway) that you like her and aren't going to sit around getting hurt as you watch her with other people and so you won't be hanging out anymore.

Say it calmly, not as a fight or as if you're punishing her. And then move on, start dating other girls. It's weird how often it happens but after a few months you'll probably hear from the friendzoner and she'll ask you out. I did this with a girl who was stringing me along for like a year (I was really young and idiotic) and we ended up hooking up backstage at a gig. She knew I'd be there so "accidentally" turned up. She admitted the "accidentally" part.

Women aren't just content rejecting you, they want you to hurt because it makes them feel better about themselves. Think of how fucked up that is. Even the nicest women I've dated have done this. A girl I was with for years broke up with me and started dating a new guy. We stayed friends (actual friends) because I just stopped caring about her in the girlfriend kind of way. I found out that one of her boyfriend's female friends was obsessed with me and wanted to date me. My ex said, WHILE WE WERE WALKING TO HER BOYFRIEND'S PLACE "I don't want you dating her, how do you think it would make me feel to see you with someone new so soon?" I mean, where do you even start with self obsession that extreme?

She tried getting back together with me a few months later behind her boyfriend's back. The dating game really IS a game. Most guys go into it with this naive, romantic idea of how things work and they end up being forced to see everything as a giant game.
