this has worked consistently for me and most recently I had a shorter and stockier guy push me at a store during corona madness this week reaching for something on the shelf in front of me, knocking me (215#) off balance and catching my step.

It may have been accidental, but because other people saw him do it and they froze, he postured. he should've apologized. he didn't and when I stared at him saying nothing he said in a raised voice: "what are you gonna do about it!?!"

I just laughed in his face and said: "you're the man" sarcastically and kept smiling, eyes locked. he nodded and said quietly: "yes I am" and walked away.

I happened to be wearing a doublestack .45 concealed on my hip in condition 1 (hammer back, round in chamber, mechanical safety on), I had no intention of getting in a fistfight, and it was my duty to de-esclate, and the written transcript would have shown me doing so.

who knows: he may have had a relative dying or scared, he may have been scared, he may just be a selfish asshole. It doesn't matter, just like with chicks, stay out of their head.

just:

1) attempt to de-escalate

2) know it's better to live another day and not go to jail, a fight avoided is a fight won

3) but if it goes sideways, be ready and able to defend yourself.

Once I was sitting in the underground taking up 2 seats, I was distracted thinking of something. Then this dude sits next to me pretty much shoving me. I told him "you can't ask me to move?" and he replied angry "you were taking up two seats". I just told him "OK but you could have told me to move". A few minutes later he apologised. I think when people do stuff like that they're just upset with something and want to take it out on others unless they're assholes. The best solution is to de-escalate imo.

If you've trained for so long, you should probably know to roll with the punches; both literally, and figuratively.

You jumped from 0 to 100 in your thinking. If you got bumped, you could say, "Damn, you're touchy." Use humour to lighten things up. If he says, "I can push you seriously if you want," you could rebut, "I'm not ready for a relationship though." <smirk>

Distance yourself to get a better perspective on the situation. This is some random dude that is probably fading into insignificance given his age, and he's looking for attention. You're there to do some shopping, focus on that, and move on.

On a broader level, this shit is completely fucking irrelevant.

No need to go to prison over some old man on the decline trying to cling onto what little power he has left. Don't listen to the dorks here talking about alpha-ness. Unless you're backed in a corner or defending someone, de-escalate the situation.

Edit: I wanna also add that in the fact that if you were in a Stand-Your-Ground state here in the US, the fella could have also been packing heat on him, which would explain the boldness on his part. With the Coronavirus hysteria going on, people are going nuts in markets, one such event involving a man getting his skull caved in with a wine bottle over toilet paper. Figure that in the equation next time.

How do I know? I had the reverse situation, a dude much bigger than me bumped into me and challenged me verbally, I told him to “put up or shut up” he bitched out 3 times. Now we are cool.

I was not as big as that guy was but I am definitely willing to visit MORE VIOLENCE.

Ironically, this helps avoid almost ALL fights. Don’t fight, but always be prepared to stand your ground
