I’m 38, and my husband and I have been married for nearly 14 years. The way I lost my virginity wasn’t really my choice (not my husband. Just don’t want any confusion).

It doesn’t bother my husband at all. Never has. He feels terrible about what i went through, but the fact that I wasn’t a virgin when he and I started dating has never bothered him. Me? Different story. I think about it all the time. I hate it. And I wish things could have gone differently. I’ve been to therapy over it. I’ve been to confession (we’re devout Catholics). I know that I need to put it behind me, but it’s a lot easier said than done. 😕

I mean, most things fade with time. We were all young and stupid once, and some of us had silly flings. Or sensible romantic relationships that didn't end in marriage. It's really not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, if it's not something your husband cares about a lot.

Does your husband know you regret it? Just knowing you feel that way is almost as good as if you actually had lost your V card to your husband. I'll bet he'd be thrilled to hear this.

Lots of regrets are optional. I think this is one because losing virginity is a concept rather than an altered physical state. Is your husband bothered by this idea?

It fades. Focus your intent elsewhere. You can make it more of an issue than it is.
