The real heroes are the guys like this, all the utility/police , firefighters , EMS ETC. workers and especially to the all the ones who are showing up in the grocery stores and pharmacies every day.
My son is stuck in Italy. Police state is in effect. No going in or out of the city he is in. ALL stores entertainment etc other than grocery stores and pharmacies are shut down. You can be jailed or fined as the police are walking down the street if they catch you outside without a valid reason .
Without the garbage men, utility workers and the ones manning the grocery stores, /pharmacy, he said they would be absolutely fucked.
To all those doing their jobs that allow us to at least be comfortable, not living in a pigsty and Allow us to eat and get medicine by still showing uo to work, here is big F from me to you.

Idk.. Where he is which is a small city by the coast, everything is shut down save grocery stores and pharmacies. There is no exit and entry. He really isnt one to exaggerate. People are basically stuck inside . Whay else can i say?
The whole point is without people doing the basic infrasttucture and medical jobs, this situation would be a lot worse and kudos to the average working joe that shows up to take care of the rest of us.
Without them we would be fucked. And even here in Canada , everything in ontario is shut down except some malls (for now) . The kids are all out of school for 3 weeks, and except for walking around outside there is nothing to do. Bur i still have food, water and electricity and garbage pickup.

Yeah I wasn't disagreeing with you. It seems a northern portion of the country is under a huge lockdown and other parts are varied by area. So perhaps the other posters family is from one of the not so affected areas.

Perhaps, Turin is still one of the biggest cities in Italy. I was just trying to reply to the OP saying Italy as a whole was under Police/Marshal law & lockdown which isn’t the case. No part of Italy is under marshal law or FORCED quarantine/curfews or such.

From all the data that I have seen coronavirus is fatal only to the immune compromised, long term smokers and those with chronic lung conditions, i.e. COPD.
Without garbagemen / sewerage workers the two least glamourous jobs in society half of us would be dead in a year.

When it comes down to it, it's the basic services and the men that do them that are the most necessary for our society. If we lost the Supreme Court tomorrow, our country would chug along with almost no consequences. If every garbage man was gone tomorrow, we'd be neck deep in our own trash, and the diseases that would result, within a week.

Good man. People often overlook those "small" jobs until those men stop doing those jobs. Garbage collection, delivery truckloads of groceries, putting in a sidewalk, fixing the sprinklers.

I'm a bus driver in the Netherlands. No mercy for us either. We just gotta keep working. I don't see the point because if I get 50 people in my bus ALL DAY then it's considered a 'good' day, relatively speaking. Normally hundreds of people. But our government doesn't wanna shut us down because then they'd have to pay for it.
