I have been dating a girl for close to a year now and it's getting pretty serious. We're both in our late 20's and are at a point in our lives where we both would be looking to move on to an engagement pretty soon. She's smart and i think our personalities really compliment each other.
A few days ago, we were at my house and my sibling was there, i think the topic of conversation came up while they were poking fun at me about being a spoilt manchild or something and my sibling mentioned the trust. At the time i hardly noticed.
Later she started quizzing me about it, and i didn't want to lie or be dishonest with someone i want to spend the rest of my life with. So i explained that my parents, and their parents had worked very hard their whole lives to build up assets so they next generation would have a much better chance at life. Unfortunately we don't live a meritocracy and even a little wealth can help shield you from the bumps and knocks of life. My parents had always instilled in me, that i was only one link in a chain and its my responsibility to work to provide even more for my owns kids and those of my sibling than they had for us. While i technically will own 50% of the trusts assets its not really for spending.
The issue is that while i have a good job and a fair amount of savings myself, the assets in the trust are significantly larger and she is saying that it's like i and my parents don't trust her and this is tantamount to me asking her to sign a prenup. She has a good job herself and was saying she is bringing everything she has into a potential marriage. I tried to explain so am i, the rules were set by my parents and if i'm honest since i was raised in that environment i do believe i have a responsibility to provide even more for my kids to help insulate them from difficulties that i had to face in my own life. Any children i have would be recipients of the same trust and we have enough money with our own combined salaries to live a middle class lifestyle without it anyway. So i don't really feel comfortable asking my parents to put things specifically under my name. But she was adamant it showed my family did not fully accept her and i should not allow them to treat her like this. I'm not a big fan of confrontation so i admit i did walk away after the conversation was going in circles and now she even more pissed at me.
I tried to explain that its not really my position to tell my parents what they should do with their own savings but we just keep going round in circles. Am i missing something here? is this really disrespectful of my parents to do?

He's lucky he saw the mask slip before they got married.
Edit: spelling.

Yeah, but that's the problem: he hasn't noticed the slip. On the thread he keeps justifying her actions and giving reasons why it cannot be what it obviously looks like. It's all "I love her and I really want to make this work." Dude's in big, big trouble.

He’s still a simp. Good thing his parents know better. I’m sure she and her divorce lawyers can find a way tho.
[–]ka0t1k47 points48 points49 points (0 children) | Copy Link
she's bringing 400k in student debt and a sordid sexual history, the least you could do is let her divorce rape the shit out of you AND your family.

At what point do you not see her as a liability? There are so many red flags, and I don’t know how he can’t see it.

i cant believe you let her speak to you that way, so disrespectful of your family, if that was my girl, she would be my ex
[–]Ebenezer_Truth3 points4 points5 points (0 children) | Copy Link
she is only mad because she wants it, ask yourself is she really that mad that your character is seemingly being besmirched?, but even then it would only be in the slightest not even then could you justify her words and attitude on the subject with how "damn madly she loves and serves you", in summation the court of my troubled mind finds her guilty of Gold-diggery haha

The guy's parents are smart.
[–]russian_troll0074 points5 points6 points (0 children) | Copy Link
I agree with him in something, she's very smart . WTF how can't ppl just see the obvious she accuse him on planning to have a prenup in an out of context subject so he says no and when they get married he won't be able to ask her to sign one. Well played Hahhh

why would anyone have problem with funds in trust.. it is in everyone's best interest for future financial security.. only god knows how much pain elders have suffered to build that trust fund for strong family foundation.. and a girl suddenly popping her long neck like a giraffe in this matter is disrespecting to entire family and more so his parents.. what else she needs when it will work for her own benefit in times of crisis apart from if she wants to divorce rape and inherit that Op should thank her for showing her true colors
[–]user_miki2 points3 points4 points (0 children) | Copy Link
She made plans with his parents money. That says it all.
She envisioned a future in which she may remain with his inheritance money.
Women like these are dangerous. This is the black widow style.
