Looks like /u/BrokenBeatenNDamned is still trying to “work things out” with his wife. A traditionally “nice guy” thing to do, but something that will make his wife disrespect him all the more because she now knows that he’s too weak to stand up for himself. His refusal to end the relationship and leave her tells her that he places her selfishness above his own self-respect, and that she can continue to take advantage of him without serious consequences (that is, having to take responsibility for her decisions).

I’ve seen guys try to “work things out” before, and it inevitably leads to the woman hating the man for his spinelessness, and desperate to leave the relationship. Those men that decisively close the relationship door and move on are the ones most often seen in a positive or regretful light by the exes.
