I wanted to share some things I've noticed in the two years I've worked as a sales rep for the local craft beer scene:

Just like any other job, there are a few regular ups and downs. Some days are exceptional and others are downright terrible. Most of this depends on the availability of my buyers in coordinance with my schedule.

There will be days when I hit all greens and everyone is available when I visit and I get tons of orders; and then there are days where no one wants to talk and/or not available.

One theme rings true throughout this industry though: women are always, ALWAYS favored. Doesn't matter if they are a sales rep like me, a buyer, a distributor rep, whatever. It legitimately affects the progress of male sales reps. Nearly all of my buyers take twice as much time with the females and make shitty jokes in an attempt to flirt with them. They all give the same stupid fake laugh and "OMG ur so funnyyyy!" Then they peddle their fucking pink wine, pumpkin ales, and shitty water-trash lagers because apparently that's what most people drink now. It's fucking maddening.

Whereas all of the legitimate beer reps (independents) rely on creating a personal relationship with our accounts, nurturing that bond, and creating legitimate agreements. You know, how actual business is supposed to be handled?

And you know what? Not a single independent craft brewery employs women as their reps. Only the big distributors hire these girls who look like ex-strippers who figured out how to dress professionally during the day. They give them a fancy iPad to play with and send them out into the field.

Seriously, I was waiting for one of my buyers one time and overheard the pitch this girl was throwing at him. She was asking to be featured for 'Brewery of the Month,' which is something that breweries are lucky to get for one month a year at a liquor store, let alone two. Verbatim, she said "do you think we can do two months this year??" The buyer said "oh we don't really do that."

All she had to do was bat her fucking eyelashes at this guy and say "oh but pleaseee" and he caved immediately. If a guy had tried that conniving bullshit, he would have lost that account permanently. What the fuck is happening in my industry. I'm not sure how much longer I can take all the things I witness in the field every day.

The biggest thing is, I dont think I would mind it as much if these little bitches weren't running around all day with these massively inflated egos and undeserved senses of entitlement. It's like all the coddling from their surroundings has allowed them to build an enormous sense of undeserved pride. Thanks for reading gents; I need a beer.
