This story is almost exactly what happened to my father many years ago before my parents got divorced. Although he attempted to stay so that my brother and I wouldn’t grow up in a broken home, not because he still had a tone of love for my mother.

My mum, the daughter of two Christian pasters who grew up in a relatively small town decided she wanted to expand her horizons and do more for the community so she left her job as a primary school teacher to become a police officer, all seeming rather wholesome. What followed was years and years of torture not only for my father but for us kids as well. She ended up sleeping with her entire recruitment squad (not an exaggeration, I work with the local police now and have met a few of the dudes she was sleeping with at the time) she would bring guys over and disappear into the bedroom with us kids home while dad was working double shifts to pay the house off and get the family out of financial debt because of her spending habits. Would swear on her life she would never cheat on him even after being confronter twice at a motel by both dad and her own father (with the same dude on both occasions) then after he couldn’t take it anymore and left he got utterly divorce raped the point that 12 years later he is still drowning in debt. The courts almost gave her full custody but my brother and I both told the court that we would rather live with dad when asked because we didn’t trust our mother or feel safe with her, so mum and dad were granted equal custody and my brother and I had to do a rotation of living with each parent for a week at a time. Time at dads was spent with the grandparent house as he continued to pull double shifts in an attempt to pull himself out of debt, weeks with mum were spent home alone with me watching my brother while mum went clubbing, or us hanging out in our room while she was in her room with some random guy. Not to mention the many other horrors we had to endure while living with her like her prescription drug addiction, on two occasions as a child of 8 I had to call an ambulance because she had OD’ed in the shower.

I cannot put into words how heartbroken it makes me to see this happen to another man knowing full well the potential of how bad this situation can go and not only how it would destroy his life but has the potential to leave those his kids utterly broken.
