Is that where the Allies aka good guys dropped bombs killing thousands of innocent civilians including children.
All we hear about are the Nazis...lol

There are accounts that it was so bad that people 100 miles away in the Czech republic were woken up in the middle of the night by a strange light that resembled the sun rising in the north. Except it was no sun it was a firestorm unleashed on Dresden.

Yes.
[–]DWShimoda5 points6 points7 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Yup... basically destroyed the entire city centre (and much of the surrounding area.
Here and here for the aftermath.
It's taken well over a half a century to rebuild, and -- as you can see in this panorama -- the "restoration" (actually more like "recreation") is still not complete.

Not like there was a plan to help repair everything

Tit for tat, ask Coventry. They should have sent their kids to the countryside like we did instead of using them as a human shield.
[–]nisaaru0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Coventry was an industrial city with critical motor manufacturing. What happened to Coventry happened to almost every german city at a certain size above a certain line, no matter of industrial production or not.

I’ve always wanted to go to Germany. How’s the food?
[–]Willkuer_4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
In the south they know how to cook. Much harder in the north. Big cities typically have all kinds of quality for all kinds of prices.
[–]shartparticles-1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Clearly you haven’t been to good restaurants in the north or know anyone from the north who can cook.Dont generalise when you don’t know what the fuck you’re talking about.
[–]Willkuer_1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Imagine being triggered when somebody tells you it’s harder to find good restaurants in the north of Germany.
[–]shartparticles0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
No you just don’t know what you’re talking about. Its not harder because I’ve lived in both north and south so fuck up cunt

Much like British food, German food is not held in particularly high regard around the world, nor do people know many of their dishes, but that is a shame because they have a lot of good food and I'm very fond of it. It's often very hearty food. Full flavoured but not overly fussy. And yes, they do eat a lot of sausages, but that's really only scratching the surface.
If you go to Berlin, though, I highly recommend getting a kebab. Berlin has some of the best kebabs in Europe.
[–]curiousboiiiii1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I’ve been going to a few local German bakeries and have enjoyed them, so I’m sure I’d love it fresh in the country.
[–]shartparticles0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
No try Grünkohl or Knödel not fucking kebabs.Berlin has amazing German restaurants, you don’t need to eat shitty kebabs.I have lived in Germany for years and the kebabs here are shit.

I worked there a few times at the Global Foundries fab. Best work location I've ever been to. There is a restaurant called Watsky's (I think). The pork knuckle is the bomb. I used to eat is every night and drink 2 of those giant 1 liter beers. Heaven on Earth. I need to go back some day.

OP if I had a chance to live in Stuttgart, Get many should I go. How easy is it for English speaking people.
[–]Fearless_Ser[S] 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
80% of German population under 50 years of age, understand English.
But for career you need solid German.

Not for working for US military. Was debating if it's worth going.

If you are looking for a book recommendation, read slaughter house 5 by Kurt Vongue (or however tf you spell his name). Alot of it was about the fire bombing of Dresden.

Dresden is such a beautiful city with such a tragic history. I really liked the Zwinger and Bruhl's Terrace on my recent trip there.
