I loved math and went in for EE back in the early 90s. I found out I didn’t love math that much, eventually getting my BS/IT instead.

I'm just a dumb electrician :), but I recommend first becoming a journeyman electrician. You'll have insight into actual electrical installations.

Don’t know much about EE but stay away from the girls there. False accusations on college campuses are rising and you don’t want you fuck yourself before you even start. Study hard and graduate. You’re going into debt for an education. Don’t let your freedom distract you.

There's going to be a lot of distractions. Parties, girls, drugs and all that. It's okay to indulge, but remember don't let some girl majoring in Genders Studies keep you from putting in the work of getting and engineering degree. You're going to have to work 2x harder than everybody.

When I went to college we didn't have all this woke SJW shit to feminize young men and title IX to ruin you before you can even stand on your own two feet in the real word. I just say keep listening to your MGTOW brethren on here and other platforms. Learn from their mistakes, you have the advantage of having discovered MGTOW at a young age.

But above all remember that the sacrifices you make are worth it in the end. Imagine being a young single engineer living off 80K + plus bonuses a year. It's MGTOW paradise.

Most of these guys telling you here have no idea what they're talking about. I'm an engineer been there done that recently enough to know, long enough to give advice. Don't become an electrician, you learn very little from it that will help with your career, - Your career is to design things electricians may eventually learn to install or repair. Spend your time learning about small electronics, DC circuits and components and tinkering with this stuff, programming with arduinos etc MUCH more relevant - any practical skills can usually be learnt specific to the job or project you are working on and technicians or elecricians you work with will gladly show you how. Do a minor in software with the EE degree, trust me.

Always remember you are an ENGINEER and not a glorified technician, you're paid to use your brain conceptually and make decisions, technicians are paid to execute a task and make decisions practically, two very different skillsets, learn the one required for your path then as you progress in your career learn the other one as it is VERY valuable in your daily life and engineering life. Just make sure you learn them in the right order - Concepts and engineering first - practical and getting it done mentality after.

Remember 90% of what you will learn in engineering you will never need. What engineering does is teaches you a MINDSET and an APPROACH to handling complex problems with complex variables.

You want to work for semi conductor companies? Most of my EE friends are doing FPGA, embedded programming, IoT, or ASIC designs.

EE is a great degree, should get you a decent paying job right out of school.

The question should also be, "what course of study do I really enjoy learning about"

Being so young, you have lots of opportunity to change to another major if you find you don't enjoy the EE coursework

I'm a Mechanical Engineering major at Rice, but I can tell you three things:

Network. Try to make friendships that can be an asset in the future. No, beer pong does not count. Join engineering clubs where you can learn hands-on skills and show potential employers that you are capable of doing engineering outside the classroom.
Cover your ass. Don't talk about politics unless you absolutely have to (and even then be a moderate), don't talk about MGTOW IRL, and be careful with girls. It only takes one to metoo you and fuck up your career.
You are in school to learn and develop your career, not to get laid or "have the college experience" whatever the hell that means.

First go work in the field doing repair.

So you will know personally what a tribe of idiots University cloned Engineers are.

Then when studying dont say much... As they wouldnt listen anyway. And would look down on you for having dirty hands.

Then go work for an engineering firm or company, designing stuff to be low parts count, easily repairable, and extremely durable, and keep the excessivive safety features minimized.

As most stuff comes from the factories now extremely unsafe due to absurd safeties, and dysyfunctional due to excessive stupid shit...

Think about two things: the end user getting a reliable and easy to use device, In the repair guy being amazed at your fore sight and elegance in design simplicity.

And if you keep your mouth shut, Eventually you start your own company and take the best clients with you.

If you are smart, you will only hire new engineers that came up from the bottom doing repair too...

In time, you will put the competition out of business.

People may not realize why they like your designs, but they will certainly realize why they dont like everyone elses....

Being an electrician is as helpful to doing electrical engineering as any of the other trades: plumbing, framing, concrete... Which has nothing to do with the honor, value, or societal worth of those trades, it's just that in a practical sense there's extremely little overlap. Less than 1% maybe? Even less than that?

Study.. A lot.

When your homies ask you to hit up the bars on the weekends you might have to turn em down because you have a math/physics/circuitry test coming up a week or two in advance.

People taking communications/business classes might look at you weird, but you'll be the one making grades and pulling in bank after it's all said and done.

Internships matter more than grades. Shoot for a 3.0 and as many projects/internships as possible.

Look into computer engineering. You do EE and learn to code which IMO is the most valuable skill set right now. Source: 1st semester CPE junior with relatively lower gpa than most but 3 internships under my belt already with a job offer from one of them. If u want any advice from someone in the trenches of this major, feel free to DM me lol
