Introduction When my Grandfather, who is now in his 80's, was 14, him and his father built a cabin with a crew of men way up north in the woods for the purpose of hunting. They built it by hand over the course of a summer. Its way up in the brush, away from everything where there is no cell phone service for miles, back in the dirt roads.
In the words of Tony Soprano: "Go out now and find me two guys that can put decent grout around your bathtub.”
Sometime in the history of this cabin, maybe 40 years ago, one of his brothers had a stag party here over memorial day. Since this, it has been a time-honored tradition in the family. Every Male relative and a few close male friends come up to the cabin over memorial day for drinking, smoking, gambling, and talking shit. Its usually accompanied by great food.
Body I haven't been up since I was young, and I went up for the first time in maybe 10 years this past memorial day. I've reflected on this tradition and came to the conclusion that traditions like this are very important for men. Somewhere, between all of the shit talk many life lessons are learned. Talking to distant uncles and cousins I rarely see about life, work, politics, fitness, women, and family matters. All from different career paths and walks of life and world views. Sharing stories around the campfire, Blues music from satellite radio plays on the boombox all weekend. Theres alot to be learned through traditions like these and not that many families have them. Everything works on a regiment, who cleans what and when, whose cooking which days, when we go to town and go fishing or out on the lake, when gambling starts, Fights take place and bets are made. Thousands of dollars go around the cabin throughout the weekend. At the end of the weekend everyone pitches in and pays for everything.
At one point over the weekend I had the thought process that this was in certain ways similar to a frat, or scouts, and saw why women and feminized men want to do away with this kind of stuff: It teaches young men morals and lessons and basically makes you into a man. Lessons are learned from a young age of masculinity and brotherhood. I have a feeling that maybe 40, 50 years ago traditions like this were alot more commonplace and they have been done away for the most part, this is a relic from a different time period that my extended family holds dearly and makes sure happens every year.
Conclusion I did not appreciate this at all when I was younger or realize what this meant. But I left that weekend a different person. Definitely more man than I was before I came, and I feel like many people who go up understand that and its an unspoken thing. I see the world as alot more bluepilled. I see how people who dont have traditions like this or are fatherless turn out the way they do without guidance. I'd say that my frame and confidence has went way up, I dont know how, but I definitely give way less of a fuck if people hear my opinion and it objects to their worldview, and I dont really care if I get rejected, not my loss. I also think my discipline with fitness which ive been struggling with has been cured. Theres a reason why they want to do away with male spaces, and its not because it turns boys into violent rapists: Its because it turns them into men, and that scares the bluepilled. A society of strong men is bad for bluepill ideals. After coming back, I feel more distant in my viewpoints from people I see into my day to day life, male feminists, transgender rights people, obese male vegans. Up north, that shit would not fly, and you would not be invited back.
