Be very careful, gentlemen. This is another way that the United States can chain you down to the plantation and destroy your life. Student loan payments can be more money than child support and they follow you to the grave, as they are the only type of debt that is not dischargeable in bankruptcy.

Sounds like a woman's problem, they're the ones who are incapable of working jobs that make just as much but lack a degree.

It's the sexist air conditioning you see, the environment is earth mother so it can't be sexist, but they still can't "work" outside.

So lemme get this straight.

Colleges add on shitty programs that make them money and hike the cost of education because partially they can and partially because corporations like Liberia that give these colleges textbooks and materials charge exorbitant fees for their goods, and then people who take no end goal degree paths face trouble to the point it reaches headlines? Color me surprised.

Yeah there are college professors who are moving towards community based textbooks they make because the textbook manufacturers all work under corporations that charge huge fees for their products and licensing and so for with their near monopolies. Colleges are built to make money and not necessarily give you equivalent value back, so some humble teachers are turning to grassroots campaigns like e-books, self made textbooks, online courses to curtail knowledge costs.

Which is great and should be applauded in a capitalist market. But isn’t surprising considering so many degree paths end in failure and leave huge loans that make plenty of money and this being the pushing cause for this article.

Price of college has increased because Obama federalized student loans and guaranteed them to anyone who wanted them.

It’s like if the government guaranteed a car loan. A car dealership isn’t going to charge 25k if they know you are qualified up to 30k.

Most women I went to school with became stay at home moms after college. College is where you go to find a husband who makes enough money so you don't have to work. How's that joke go, what's the difference between a hot good looking woman coed and an average looking woman coed? The average looking coed has to get a job after graduating.

Just for relevance, mom got her BS from Duquesne University in Nursing 1946, $9 per credit, 128 credits $1152.

When I went to University of Pittsburgh $104 per credit, it was around $13,500 for my degree.

Today Duquesne averages $36,200 per year, or $145,000 for a degree. University of Pittsburgh, $17,700 per year or $71,000 for the average degree.

This is what happens when the Government will lend you literally unlimited cash for a college degree.

Punched into an inflation calculator, my degree should be $35,250 today. Moms degree today should be $15,000 with inflation. So since the 1940's college costs have gone up 10 times the rate of inflation, and since the early 80's twice the rate of inflation.

I went to college, I won't be sending my kids to college. It's a bubble, there are other ways to get educated than lifelong indentured to debt.

the price of tuition is increasing while the wages have been mostly stagnant for over a decade. this isn't going to fair out well for these higher learning institutions. in addition to this - most degrees not only don't guarantee you gainful employment but in many cases the students wind up as a cashier at a convenient store or a barista at a coffee house after 5 years or more of graduation. unless you're going into stem or getting a trade (technical or vocational) it's not worth it.

Blue collar trader here..Been busier than ever. Sure its not for everybody but college is not for everyone either. Bottom line no student debt at all and making 70K on my own while progressing and growing each year. This is not a boast but maybe some guys will think different and try some Tradework.
