Loving simply doesn't satisfy hypergamy and keep a marriage together.
[β]Tercalerc21 points22 points23 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Sad but true
[β]Zefirez11 points12 points13 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
And so he said love genuinely, not "marry genuinely". Dude knows what's up ;)
[β]janglang2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Yup, tried that. She wanted more "stuff" and I wanted to live simply and be able to pay the bills. So she started fucking a guy with more "stuff".

Money = freedom
[β]lestratege43 points44 points45 points 5 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
Not if you spend 70 hrs a week to acquire it.
Time is freedom.
[β]Unknownn90917 points18 points19 points 5 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Very true. Who ever agreed to start the trend of 40+ hour work weeks can die in hell.
[β]ArtoriusXv5 points6 points7 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
That's women probably, to get the husbands out of the house more so they can get pounded by chad and tyrone for longer.
[β]DarthSchadenfreude4 points5 points6 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
And the beauty of THAT system, is that the wives can then hamster out an excuse that their behavior was caused by their husband never being around because he is spending too much time working.
[β]ArtoriusXv1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Ah the simplicity and pure evilness of that system is to be admired, at the very least.
[β]IIceWeasellzz11 points12 points13 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Well said, although i agree with both of you
[β]Nkazio3 points4 points5 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Depends on the amount of money. Slaving in a cubicle doesn't offer freedom. Working 70 hrs work weeks for a six figure salary means you get to do what the fuck you want to on weekends and days off.
[β]Blissbynature5 points6 points7 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
True. There are good reasons to work for good things in this world. I think he is saying to not chase one desire and the next and the next like happiness is something always just around the corner.
[β]Talkytalktalk2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
It is simple and straightforward. Quest for excessive things and status without responsibility come from an immature place. Get rich or die trying is zealously materialistic, to the point of being evil.
[β]Trail_of_Jeers0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
It was, at one time, like this.
[β]Natsume2534 points35 points36 points 5 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link
One of the most annoying things I've ever heard are celebrities constantly saying money doesn't buy happiness.
I get it, somewhat. Having money comes with it a whole new set of problems. You can't tell who wants you for you or your fame...agents and lawyers alike want to bleed you dry, people stalk you when you want your privacy. It can be stressful.
But as a guy who lives on the streets; moreover, a man who has tasted the hell of poverty, I can attest three things I've had to learn.
Money doesn't BUY happiness. It buys plenty of opportunities to be happy. It buys you hobbies. It buys you a house. It buys you a car. And the most obvious, it buys you affection. Sure, the affection from females is false, but many blue pilled guys would do anything to believe in the illusion that a woman loves them. Having money helps with that in the most ironic way.
You are responsible for obtaining your happiness and peace. I used to find happiness in other people(read: women and close friends) but in the past three years I had to learn harsh lessons about female nature through heavily scarred heartbreak by exes, betrayal by my close friends in pursuit of money and status, and the disdain of others when I wasn't easily exploitable.
Even in the worst of situations, you can have fun. I have memories of some of the craziest and most awesome times when I had a few dollars in my pocket, free time, and a few friends. Hook-ups at a Halloween party, getting kidnapped to go diving in a lake at night, waking up in New Orleans before Mardi Gras, days with Mary Jane and music at the park. My experience has had its golden moments amidst the hurt. They seem like a distant memory now, but these moments brought me joy and exhilaration.
I truly knew the meaning of disposability through this experience of being on the streets. Few people love you, but those who do are once in a lifetime friends.
With that being said, I've had to learn to be at peace with myself, because happiness is unobtainable most days. It's still a struggle, especially with issues like anxiety and depression that I possess.
A person can be pretty damn happy when they aren't worried too much about starving, not getting rained on, having your items constantly stolen, dealing with police harassment, having to do convoluted things during the summer to appear normal because you're sweating all the time, and being tired and stressed out all the time.
To strangers and some friends, I appear the happiest guy, but it is a front, because no one loves a whining man who is down on his luck.
Ben Carson meant well, but much like his political acumen, his expertise on this subject is a bit lacking.
He was attempting to empower those who feel like they lack, but has very little insight on what it's like.
Still, learning to be at peace with oneself and pursue your own meaning to happiness is essential to leading a well meaning life. That is a good takeaway, but I'd do ANYTHING to live like a king...just for a day.
Since that's impossible, I'll deal with being a peasant and party like a peasant until one day i can party like a rockstar or something close to it.
It's a beautiful message, nonetheless. Life, however, can be quite ugly at times. Find your reason to live...or don't. You're free to do either. Cheers.

When you rich, you got a ballroom to dance in, right there in your mansion, nigga. You don't dance in the street, but you do dance. Am I right or wrong?
[β]demontits9 points10 points11 points 5 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Sorry, did I just walk into a church? This is the kind of inane garbage that women repost on facebook. What does any of this have to do with mgtow?
edit:ben carson has been married 43 years
[β]tofu64659 points10 points11 points 5 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
I think the idea of the post is challenging pre concieved notions of happiness and advises to just live the best life that you can. That is very much a MGTOW philosophy.
[β]PitBullFan5 points6 points7 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Very true. My father grew up very poor, but when he became wealthy, he and I sat down for a long talk about what wealth and freedom really means. I'll never forget his words about money. "Kid, having money doesn't mean you won't ever fight with your wife... if just means you won't fight about the bills."
[β]Sir_manalot4 points5 points6 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
The idea is to motivate the poor to keep working because rich people actually don't have it better then you, in matter of fact the poor have it better in many ways...right?
This motivation is especially needed these days, as poor men are really unmotivated these days and aren't working as hard to make people rich like they use to.
To.be clear: money doesn't buy happiness, it buys the peace, comfort and security necessary to have happiness. Sure, everyone has fleeting moments where they can be happy...but money allows you to have more of these fleeting moments if you so desire.
Ex: instead of dancing on the streets, a rich man is dancing at a fancy ballroom surrounded by sexy women trying to suck his dick for some status.
[β]Natsume250 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
This.
I'd trade my left nut for his cash.

[β]Sir_manalot6 points7 points8 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Shut up and keep working to make him richer.
You have it better in many ways then all these rich men do, just look at how the police prevent rich men from going outside to dance on the streets.
Because of these privileges, we need to work longer hours to make him more happy. Because he is incredibly misserable ATM.

Ben Carson's wife triggered an investigation by the House Oversight Committee by spending too much money lol

[β]laptopdragon5 points6 points7 points 5 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
that's eloquent, but have you ever seen someone get off of a jet ski and say they're depressed?
I think poverty does severely limit many peoples dreams (or attempts at them).
[β]Sir_manalot6 points7 points8 points 5 years ago* (4 children) | Copy Link
Shhhh. This guy is trying to motivate our nations poor to work harder, not express truth like you are trying to do.
He even goes as far as to say that rich people cannot dance in the street like poor people can (even though they can of they want to)...in order to try and make it look like our nations starving has it better in some ways.
Just think of all those books that talk about the secret of success, which always ends up being the simple rule that you have to be passionate...even though I bet everyone that has ever lived started out working hard and passionately.
[β]Natsume253 points4 points5 points 5 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Bloody this.
[β]Sir_manalot2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
It seems people forgot how the rich became rich for a second and fell into his frame.
First he agrees that the poor are suffering and amplifies it by stating that tons of people want to exchange places with you...including the super famous and rich men who wish they could dance on the streets like the begging street performers.
It is all bs, but shows how powerful frame is.
[β]Natsume252 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Not very good frame, if you ask me.
[β]Sir_manalot0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yet people are still falling for it.
I have no idea how people can be this gullible in this day and age.
Just look at what things cost in the 90s compared it to now and then analyze how much your wage has changed since then...it is inexcusable at this point and the excuses keep getting more and more insane.
Yet people are still listening to this crap. The current alphas in charge are fucking us all over while blaming young powerless men for everything (read; the threatening group) and telling us to accept this because we are lucky to be working long hours for very, very little.
How far do they have to push for people to care? Do they have to start killing young men for being too smart?
[β]Atton_Risk1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Blue pill men can learn from that one.
[β]FlexyPirate1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[+][deleted] 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I remember Gwyneth Paltrow, in an attempt to prove that living on SNAP was comfortable if done right, tried to live on 200 dollars of food for a month.
She couldn't last a week.
It shut her up about poverty.
[β]frankmarlowe1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Propaganda to make you find peace in your wage-slavery, nothing more. Idealize poverty to discourage actual ambition
[β]EvergreenMGTOW0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Not being able to keep a roof over your head or having to constantly worry about paying bills would make anyone miserable. But after your basic needs are taken care of, more money does not make most people happier, except in that it raises your status compared others. Being driven to earn more by a wife is certainly not the route to happiness. AS a MGTOW you can live simply and enjoy as much happiness as do richer people. If you work fewer hours you have the free time to work on yourself. More money gives you more choices but choosing a path that will bring happiness is the most difficult part.
I've found fulfilment recently by gradually building up a 'wildlife utopia' out the back of my house and attracting as many species (birds, hedgehogs etc) as I can and by starting a keto diet which is giving me feelings of health I haven't experienced for decades. Both these projects have cost very little.
[β]Nkazio0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
money = happiness, if you use it right, and come from a background where you didn't have any.
The only ones unhappy with money are spoiled fucks or genuinely sick people, where said money can't buy them health
[β]badaboomxx0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
