I remember going to raves in my early twenties. Acid truly does enhance your perception and your intuition. This is where I really became interested in human psychology and the mind. I remember talking with girls and noticing little quirks they exhibit when you talk to them. Girls would test your reactions and try to lead discussions down certain routes. LSD allowed me to see right through their actions and their quirks.Tripping on acid or having any kind of psychedelic experience should be the rite of passage for every human being. Our ancestors ate psychoactive mushrooms, and ate different plants that affected their minds and their perspective of the world around them. Everyone should have a psychedelic experience at least one time in their life.

LSD will change your perceptions of the world. It makes you like a child again and allows you to see everything with a different perspective than before. It's an incredible experience but it should NOT be taken lightly. You need to show respect to the drug, because it can and will kick your ass if you disrespect it. Here's my advice for those who do want to take it:

Take about 100micrograms. You won't have many hallucinations but you will still have the mental aspects that it brings. On LSD your mind is set on dissecting and finding the connections between every little thing. This is a wonderful experience. But LSD can also make you paranoid and fearful which can send you into a "Bad trip". Once you've taken LSD a few times you can begin to tell when your about to fall into a bad trip and avoid it, but if it's your first time then you can be caught off guard. So here is my guide to avoiding a bad trip and getting the most out of LSD:

1) ALWAYS HAVE A TRIP SITTER. This is not optional. You need someone there who has taken LSD before that why they can help you out if you start getting afraid. You also want your trip sitter to be someone you trust greatly because you are going to be slightly vulnerable (mentally) when on LSD.

2) If you start thinking about "bad trips" and anything bad that could happen, STOP. Just stop thinking about the bad and switch to something else. Don't try to rationalize why you shouldn't be afraid because your mind will just find 20 more reasons to why you should.

3) If you can't stop thinking of bad thoughts and you're getting more afraid, tell your trip sitter. They should be there to help you chill. They are a few things they can do to help. They can take you outside or to a different room. New sights can help by giving you a clean slate of thought. They can also give you some paper and a pen. If you're freaking out just draw. It is a ton of fun even if you usually don't do it, and it will take all of your focus.

4) No matter what, remember it's just a drug. It has a half life of 5 Hours so that means if you take 100micrograms then 5 hours later it will be half strength. In about 10 hours it will be one quarter of it's original strength. Once you get to about 20micrograms in your system you are usually back to normal.

Honestly though, 150micrograms and under is usually quite controllable. I didn't have any problems until I went up to 400micrograms a few weeks ago, which is fairly high dose.

And as a final note, LSD is worth it. There is very little risk if you go into it with a good mindset. You will understand more about yourself than you could if you spent 100 hours of meditation. It is truly wonderful.

If you don’t understand what is happening, you will think that you are going to die and that is as terrifying as anything can get. However, you are not at all dying. What is dying is all the propaganda that you have been fed by others about yourself and reality. Your brain is being washed clean of all that nonsense and it is a super psychological, intellectual, spiritual, philosophical and metaphysical insight to realize that your ego is just a tiny part of your full identity and that your full identity never dies. Your body and memory die one day, but YOU never die.

I did LSD back in the 1980's. (as well as mushrooms)

The Red Pill is mostly filled with (recovering) betas.

What is a beta?

Well, it's a guy with no Frame and no Game.

So LSD basically destroys your ego boundry. (Frame)

My opinion is the "Red Pill middle tier" who are the Nihilists would have the most to gain from LSD.

Nihilists have a wall of ego... a cage... preventing them from enlightenment and LSD might be the path to get past that stage.

But acting on Game works too.

So at this point in life I wish someone presented the concept of Game to me early on rather than a chemical.

As a psychedelic veteran with 20+ years of tripping experience under his belt - I approve of this message.

Excellent write-up on LSD (and life, the universe and everything). Succinctly covers everything a newbie needs to know.

The only thing I would add is that LSD is essentially the beginning, not the end, of the spiritual journey. The subsequent step, for those inspired to take it, is to then explore non-drug methods of permanent awakening; Zen meditation, Advaita Vedanta, etc.

I think it's worth noting that dosage is highly important. A beginner dose meant to give someone an introduction to it could be anywhere from 50ug to 150ug. In my experience, LSD has a very wide range of effects that may or may not be prevalent in a trip depending on how much you are taking. On another note, I find meditation to be incredibly rewarding when tripping. You're able to observe your thoughts in what seems to be a third-person perspective. It has helped me internalize red pill concepts and truths as well as assisting in realizing my own life goals.

LSD, unlike many other drugs, is not a mood enhancer. Instead, it magnifies the thoughts and patterns that already exist in your mind. You get to explore your mind in great detail not just intellectually but also physically and emotionally and you get a very distinct and measurable, lets call it, "reaction" when a thought you held is "resolved". All this occurs at relatively high doses. Anything under 150ug is mostly visual and a very mild experience, 200ug - 400ug is where LSD starts "breaking" your mind and anything beyond that I would say is not recommended for people who are in the process of building a life for themselves.

The thing about acid is that it has a very real impact on your life almost immediately. It's kind of like getting a dream job and finding out a week later that your parents weren't really your parents. It's the truth and you might handle it well but it also has the potential to send your life into a tail spin and with acid you never know what you're going to see.

All in all, I've done heaps of drugs and regret every second I wasted on them but acid was not one of them. Should be on everyones bucket list.

I've experienced psilocybin a few times and can understand where a person would get started down that path of discovery. I have also seen the end result of that journey. I'm not arguing for or against drug use, that is an individual's choice, but I prefer to take the Buddhist way to enlightenment without the use of psychedelics.

My brother hung out with T. Leary a few years before his death and he did not have "one of the greatest minds of all time" as OP states, his brain was fried from drug use and he was incoherent.

My girlfriends parents were OG California hippies in the 60's, her Family founded the Hog Farm, they were heavily involved in the American Indian movement of the 70's with plenty of peyote to go around. In my expierience with all of the original LSD thinkers of the 60's & 70's that I have come into contact with, except one, their brains are fried and have poor cognitive function. We all end up being a net result of our choices.

This is the best way I can describe the Psychedelic Experience:

Sensory and Perception

First, sensory perceptions become especially brilliant and intense. Normally unnoticed aspects of the environment capture the attention; ordinary objects are seen as if for the first time and acquire new depths of significance. Aesthetic responses are greatly heightened: colors seem more intense, textures richer, contours sharpened, music more emotionally profound, the spatial arrangements of objects more meaningful. People may feel keener awareness of their bodies or sense changes in the appearance and feeling of body parts. Depth perception is often heightened and perspective distorted; inanimate objects take on expressions, and synesthesia (hearing colors, seeing sounds, etc.) is common. Time may seem to slow down enormously as more and more passing events claim the attention, or it may stop entirely, giving place to an eternal present. When the eyes are closed, fantastically vivid images appear: first geometrical forms and then landscapes, buildings, animate beings, and symbolic objects.

Emotional

The emotional effects are even more profound than the perceptual ones. The drug taker becomes unusually sensitive to faces, gestures, and small changes in the environment. As everything in the field of consciousness assumes unusual importance, feelings become magnified; love, gratitude, joy, sympathy, lust, anger, pain, terror, despair, or loneliness may become overwhelming, or two seemingly incompatible feelings may be experienced at once. It is possible to feel either unusual openness and closeness to others or exaggerated distance that makes them seem like grotesque puppets or robots. The extraordinary sensations and feelings may bring on fear of losing control, paranoia, and panic, or they may cause euphoria and bliss.

Memory

Short-term memory is usually impaired, but forgotten incidents from the remote past may be released from the unconscious and relived. Introspective reflection with a sense of deep, sometimes painful insight into oneself or the nature of humanity and the universe is common; often the experience seems somehow more real or more essential than everyday life. There are also profound changes in the sense of self: the ego may separate from the body (dissociation), or the boundary between self and environment may dissolve.

Deeper Levels

At deeper levels, drug users may regress to childhood as they relive their memories, or they may project themselves into the series of dreamlike images before their closed eyelids and become the protagonists of symbolic dramas enacted for the mind's eye. Actions, persons, and images in this dream-world or even in the external world may become so intensely significant and metaphorically representative that they take on the character of symbols, myths, and allegories. Loss of self may be experienced as an actual death and rebirth, undergone with anguish and joy of overwhelming intensity. In some cases the culmination is a mystical ecstasy in which for an eternal moment all contradictions seem reconciled, all questions answered, all wants irrelevant or satisfied, all existence encompassed by an experience that is felt to define the ultimate reality, boundless, timeless, and ineffable.

Some of these effects are more common than others, but none are guaranteed to occur. Many recreational users have probably never experienced the more profound and extraordinary effects, which are usually produced by larger doses, closed eyes, and deep introspection. At any dose, a great deal depends on the time, the place, and the persons involved. Each drug experience is a unique journey of exploration into the mind.

The part about how LSD will expand your ability to use more than the typical 1% (10%?) of your brain sounds like bullshit. The best way i have ever heard lsd explained is as follows:

Look at a small child that goes into a big shopping mall for the first time. His eyes are wide, he's experiencing everything, taking the whole place in. It's like the kid has a new perspective on what's outside of his front door.

Lsd does the same but on an internal level. When you take it you become infinitely aware of everything around you and inside your brain. You experience things from a new perspective and see the world in a different way. If you can use this to your benefit, like many have, you'll never look back.

I feel like it can definitely be a useful tool, it can lead to some difficult introspections at times, but I think that is just showing things you need to confront. Ive never had what I would consider a "bad" trip.

My one big recommendation is do NOT be tired at all when you take it. This is something Ive fucked up a bunch. It sort of amplifies that being tired, and of course you cant sleep when you're tripping so...it really bigs it down.
