I have re-flaired this post as Epiphany phase. Although we have a single mother here who is crying about how it is too hard, what we are actually seeing here is her coming to the crushing epiphany that she was never worth any commitment, realizing how she has never been worth more than sex and how she needs commitment to gain status.

She has no one in her circle she can identify with because most mothers won't be around her age and the women who are mothers will be strictly platonic. She's never getting invited to their house or getting introduced to the husband because they will be very wary of her. All of this compounds to her realization that she needs some form of commitment from someone soon. Sure, she does not seem bitter about men yet, but that's coming real soon as she is going to ramp up her effort to lock down a guy and that is going to lead to disappointment as guys skirt around her.

This is how women want to have it all. They want the excitement of the bad boy sex, but they also want the status and approval of the society at your expense.

If I could guess, she’d likely had better relationship prospects in her life, right under her nose no less, but she turned them down for Chad. She doesn't realize that if she wants commitment, she's going to have to "settle". So we see her lament that there are no men for her - when actually there would be plenty of men, if she would just lower her standards a bit.
