"A man is one who is a husband, and a father. Especially one towards a child that is not his own."

At first when i heard that i didn't think too much of it, but something about it bothered me to a point now where im posting about it here.
A little background/context
I work at a out-of-school childcare program that is located at various schools in a community close to where i live. Kids come in the morning before their schools starts and after when school ends we care for them untill their parents come in to pick them up. The nature of the job lends itself towards women and currently the split is 11 women/4 dudes. Occasional conversations about men and what they ideally see in their mates will come up and this was one such time. One of them talked about how they have divorced and then gotten back together with her husband. At that point she told the other lady (who is a single mom with a two year old) what she thought a "man" was and they both agreed with such conviction i was slightly perturbed.
I thought to myself how is it fair to any guy? the only way you can be a man is be a good little husband for me and father my children. Its outrageous! A woman can "go her own way." and cheered along in her own pursuits. A pat on the back for being independent, showing that she dosent need anyone else. Then they turn around and tell us that we need to be "providers". Husbands. Fathers
Fuck that.
That is all.
