What always amazes me is how single women boast about doing it all themselves, but how many men have a stay-at-home wife who they have to provide for? So, sure, the wife will do some work (mostly when the kids are small), but past that stage, the money you spend on a SAHM is much more than whatever you would spend on a baby-sitter / cleaning lady.

So providing for an entire family *including* a lazy-ass wife is harder than providing just for your kids.
