This specifically applies to those who've suffered from long-term loneliness and virginity. We all live in an age where there is a lot of pressure to lose your virginity. Virgin-shaming is done by both men and women. So let's not act like one gender acts kinder than the other. While men will laugh in the faces of virgins, women will laugh among their friends. Different evils, similar outcomes.

I'd say that having sex is a necessity in order to "not feel bitter" towards the opposite sex. Someone might be okay with being a virgin for the first several years. But give him/her 8 years of loneliness or being sexually undesirable, and the weight of being a virgin will weight down on them eventually. People can try using coping mechanisms such as "focusing on jobs, finding a new hobby, finding friends," but these are just band-aids to the wound. For example, someone who's a bitter virgin may feel depressed about not being sexually desirable. This particular person may go to a "depression forum" for advice. Most advice he/she would get is "find a hobby to keep yourself busy." The problem is that using things like "hobbies, social circles, career goals" are temporary fixes that only delay the inevitable relapse of depressed feelings. Their new hobby may give them peace of mind for the next few years, but after that they'll revert back to their original bitter state. And that eventually leads to resentment towards the opposite sex, depression, suicide, and worst case scenarios: school shootings.

When can we finally just admit as a society that sex is a psychological need? Sure it's not oxygen, food, or shelter, but it is absolutely necessary for long-term mental health.
