Two pilots (guess) on air india 676 forgot to retract the landing gear after takeoff and flew the whole flight with the undercarriage extended, for an hour and a half untill they had to divert due to excessive fuel consumption, only realizing their mistake prior to landing when they reached again for the lever.

Never mind that the a/c would exhibit a degraded climb and not reach cruise altitude, would refuse to accelerate to cruise speed, being software limited to a quite low airspeed to prevent undue damage and strees to the gear, fly at an abnormal nose high attitude, vibrate and with increased wind noise caused by the gear out, the power settled at abnormal cruise levels and the ecam showing gear down and three greens, right in the middle of the cockpit.

What is deeply troubling is, that for both pilots that was a fine situation not warranting further deep scrutiny or troubleshooting, talks wonders about cockpit coordination and adherence to sop's too

For a car analogy, that is like driving for hours, pedal to the metal, for it to top at 25, and not thinking twice about the speed, the noise or the red (!) symbol on the dashboard

Sounds like my sister. She complained that the car was driving funny and pulled over in a lot. The tire was completely flat. I was able to fill it and drive it home as it wasn't too far away, but the only way she didn't hear that horrible grinding was that she was blaring music.
