I identify with this so much.

I gave so much emotional support and energy to my boyfriend. He regularly let me down when I needed him. He didnt know how to care for anyone; pathetically he could barely look after himself.

I lost sight of who I was. All my energy went into being there for him - I hate to say it. I'm embarrassed to say it. I lost touch with my hobbies, my interests, my sexuality, my self esteem flat lined, I had no time to develop myself, I had no energy to process a recent bereavement. A year and a half of my life gone. No progress, no growth. I resent him immensely for his selfishness and greed and how he endlessly used me.

Now I'm single I'm so sensitive to this trait in men. The slightest sign of it repulses me. I'm enjoying spending time on myself doing things I love and making up for lost time.

You seem very philosophical. I am procrastinating on reddit when I am supposed to be writing a paper on Socrates’ quote of “the unexamined life is not worth living”.

I think the biggest fault in our world is the hostility towards people asking questions or having different opinions. Especially when it comes to questioning faith. I hate that the culture of religion is that it is bad to question faith. No, it is our right as humans to protect ourselves against false truth. If I were God I wouldn’t want my children mindlessly believing their authorities that they happened to be born in the right place right time right church?! No! I would want my children to think! I was raised Mormon and we were told that we were lucky to be born in the one true church. We were explicitly taught that faith is just believing and then one day you will just understand.... NOOO Asking questions isn’t wrong. Faith in my opinion isn’t blindly believing. That’s brain washing. If I die and it turns out I am wrong and committed a huge sin in questioning Gods existence due to lack of evidence and God sends me to hell for that?... I will gladly look my creator in his eyes and tell him that he is not my God and skip my way down to hell because I think our greatest gifts as humans is our cognitive ability to use our own intuition and think for ourselves rather than just monkey see monkey do.

It is not a sin to ask questions. Your ex boyfriend sucks. Pleaseeeee you deserve to find a man who is as unbiased and open minded as you are. You are a smart woman... it’ll get boring with someone who won’t entertain your ideas.

Love the way you broke it down. Same thing happened to me with my ex - we went through so many manic-bipolar break-ups, but once I started getting stressed with work and had a break-down that was "too much to handle" lol.

This. When my ex-boyfriend was sick I'd still want to see him since I only could about twice a month. I'd go to his house, risk getting sick, and cater to his needs. I'd obviously expect the same in the reverse situation, but instead I would get a "Sorry I don't want to get sick."

Yes, I can take care of myself. No, I don't want to ever be dependent on a man to care for me. But it's gotta be equal effort. I won't make you soup if you won't make me soup. I'm not your mom
