I live in a major metropolitan area. Today on the train a VERY IMPOSING dude was leaning over women sitting alone, yelling and swearing at them. All these dudes looked down at their phones, pretending they didn't see. I was nervous for them, so I wanted to do something.
Before I could find the alert button, my boyfriend moved me to a train car further down, hopped off, and got the conductor. The conductor was a small woman, so my boyfriend asked if he could escort her to make sure she was safe, too. The conductor cleared the front car while my boyfriend moved the drunk guy there and stayed with him until the next stop, where he forced the drunk guy off the train.
Stuff like this happens ALL THE TIME and I'd never seen a man stand up for women before. He made me feel safe the entire time, but he also looked out for the other women being harassed.
I feel like I didn't know what being treated right looked like. I thought I did, but he shows me time and again to raise my expectations of ALL men.
