There is a big difference between playing up your sex appeal in a classy way and looking for validation by objectifying yourself in a trashy way.

I work hard in the gym so I definitely want to show my body off. I go for form fitting clothing that covers a decent amount of skin. Some cleavage but not much. The clothing being form fitting and flattering to your figure does more for your appearance than simply flashing skin at them. Leave a little bit to the imagination. It still looks sexy, but I wouldn’t feel awkward or uncomfortable if I happened to run into a colleague, employee, or client while I’m out.

I think it's possible to be classy and provocative at the same time (see: Dita von Teese in her daily wear). The following things come to mind regarding your question:

The sexier you FEEL the sexier the vibe you will give off. You could wear a normal dress but racy lingerie underneath that only you know about.
Always go for quality fabrics. A low-cut but well-tailored dress made of dense fabric will look classier than a cheap dress that wrinkles easily and hangs off you.
Lace is very sexy.
When in doubt, follow the classic rule: cleavage or legs, never both.
Once you're in your sexy dress, forget about yourself and become absorbed in the world around you. Hold intelligent conversation, show graciousness and good manners.

I think dressing provocatively is okay, the problem is when it looks trashy. I wouldn't recommend wearing a dress that shows underboob or those see through dresses that show your underwear.

I dress very modestly and have a victim of sexual harassment, but I guess dressing provocatively may increase your chances. Men are trash.

I've seen women dressed sexy walk by men who don't so much as glance at them.

To be honest, I wouldn't want to show alot of skin because the average man on the street or in the grocery store doesn't deserve to see it.

Personally, I don't pander to what I think men want to see. I wear stuff I like, and that way, I'm happy with myself and if a guy likes it then that's great and he can try to be a part of this.

I’m gonna go with pay attention to time, place and occasion, for this one. If everyone else around you is also dressed more provocatively, it’s absolutely appropriate for you to go ahead and show off a bit more. Family dinner with 75 year old grandparents or at church? Nah, go for something more conservative. Dinner on a patio when it’s 90 degrees out? Get your short shorts and/or crop top out, it’s hot out and justified.

I dress sexy but classy. Like this.

You can show off your body in a non-objectifying way, although there will always be men who objectify you no matter what.

Form fitting without being revealing.

I have a small waist and large breasts, so I never show off my cleavage. They do all the talking for themselves. I tend to wear boat-neck cut dresses or similar cut, that come in at the waist and show off my legs. It’s tailored, form-fitting, classy, and sexy without trying. Every woman has her line of alluring without being trashy, but I think skin tight or too much skin are always going to put you in the trashy category.

Women with smaller breasts can get away with showing off a little cleavage and still looking classy. So keep that in mind too.

I choose to not dress provocatively since I don't want a man that looks for that in a woman. Also, its just not my style. I'm more oriented toward the chic outfits with a touch of avant-garde.

However I do agree that it can be done tastefully.

Dressing provocatively makes you less attractive to men, not more. The more "innocent" you look, the more attractive you are to men.

Dress provocatively if you want, but just know that it will result in less male attention, not more.
