Hey ladies! Wanted your honest opinion on this matter. Not posting this to the relationship advice sub because that place can be a misogynistic mess at times.

So my bf and I have been dating for about 7 months. So far he’s been good to me. Has a good job, is a gentleman, handsome, works out, takes care of himself, dresses well, is emotionally available and super affectionate.

For my birthday back in the summer, he got me a necklace because I casually mentioned wanting one early in our relationship. This came up because he was bragging about being a great gift giver. Unfortunately the necklace tarnished within weeks. I was wearing it all the time and I guess the quality wasn’t great.

A couple months later he asked if something happened to the necklace and I told him it tarnished. He said he’d get me a better one.

A couple weeks ago I asked him if he wanted anything specific for Christmas. He told me what he was interested in getting. He then told me, “I’m not going to ask what you want because I already got your gift. Think you’ll like it.” I decided to go ahead and wait for the surprise.

So Christmas comes along and I made sure to get him what he asked for. He ended up getting me a book and another necklace but it wasn’t my style at all. It wasn’t ugly, just not my style. He was happy with his gift. I wasn’t thrilled about mine but I decided to tell him it was beautiful and thank you.

3 days later, I decided to go ahead and tell him the truth in the hopes that he’d just return it and get me one that suited my style more. I was very nice about it and made sure to emphasize how much I appreciate the gesture.

He was very upset and offended. He said I made him feel like shit and that I “couldn’t even pretend to like it and wear it a few times.” I told him I thought we had an open honest relationship and I didn’t think this would hurt him so bad. I apologized profusely.

We made up and he forgave me. I want to know, do you all think I was wrong to say anything in the first place? I told him the truth because I wanted a necklace that I loved and that I could wear daily. I’m wondering if I was out of line.
