I'm on mobile and nursing a hangover so this may not come out as clear as I want it to so apologies in advance.

I'm just wondering, being on the sub and looking at some of the posts and comments I'm curious about how one thing can get comments and you'll usually have swarms of comments attacking or defending what's being said vehemently. But then you'll have essentially the same thing posted but with genders flipped and have sides completely change.

I've noticed it when in response to some of my own comments. The ones that are more "gender neutral" don't get as much opposition from either side, but ones that have a clear frame of which gender is being talked about will get outcry and things like "not all of X gender is like that" or even "Well it's okay for X to do that, but Y can't do that for [insert reason here]" or the typical AMALT/AWALT.

There's a good deal of talk about double standards and hypocrisies, and sometimes there's nuance and complexity that isn't being taken into account and that's fair. And obviously people can be naturally hypocritical and being able to point it out doesn't necessarily mean you're above it. But looking past the natural cognitive dissonance that might be present, how much of it is just outright and malicious doublespeak.

So is it just the "us vs them" mentality that some people might overlook or is it something else? Thoughts?
