I'm pretty sure the general consensus is "don't bother, its not your problem" BUT I (34F) have a male friend (34M) who is THE worst. He's incompetent at just about everything, but thinks he's amazing, and makes sure everyone around him knows how amazing he is. Hes judgmental, insults people around him, and is generally pretty sexist. He also blames EVERYONE ELSE for his short comings. He has zero accountability.

Why do I even associate with him? Because my hobby is rock climbing and he's a pretty reliable belayer (holds the other end of the rope so I don't fall to my death) and has no real social life so is always available to climb on short notice. Trust me, hes always my LAST resort but I still see him once a week or every other week when my girl belayers have social lives.

The problem? When we climb the drive can be 1-2 hours away, during which time we often talk. He's been single for the better part of a decade now, he did have a LTR in his mid-twenties but ultimately broke up with her, and it SEEMS like he probably regrets that now (although he'd never admit it). He's super sad about his single status, and often asks me for dating advice. In his mind he's "Fit, attractive, interesting, funny, smart, great with kids, has a good job, his own place, and his own car!" he thinks hes the PERFECT guy and women are just "crazy"

He complains that he puts himself out there, goes on dates all the time, and will usually get a few good weeks out of a girl but never makes it all the way to relationship status before she dumps him or he decides she isn't good enough.

He's asked me "whats wrong with him" literally hundreds of times by now, and I obviously have LOTS to say on the matter lol. I'm well aware that laying into him about his various short comings and various ways that I basically can't stand him won't do either of us any good but is there like a website I could point him to? A dating consultant I could suggest?

Has anyone had any success helping a male friend be less of a shitty person?
