I love the outdoors. Camping, swimming, going for walks, bike rides, hikes. If it's outside, I'm in. I love to travel (before the pandemic I'd use my vacation time to travel for a couple weeks every summer). I love live music and going to concerts. I do Postcrossing on and off, cross stitch, dabble in watercolors, go antiquing/thrifting (I'm really into home decor and love to decorate my space), and I read voraciously. News articles, Wikipedia, books. If I'm not at work or doing one of my other hobbies I'm probably reading.

My negative value ex's hobbies were drinking, smoking weed, and binge watching tv shows he'd already seen 12 times (I now have a deep repulsion to The Office, Parks and Recreation, and Brooklyn 99 since he'd have this shit going 24/7, even when we were sleeping). Every now and then he'd pepper in some video games. Just trying to get him to go for walks with me was like pulling teeth. He could barely read and I'm not being hyperbolic. His older brother is literally illiterate and the only reason my ex can read at like a 2nd grade reading level is because he had a saint of a teacher who refused to give up on him. And this is the imbecile I really allowed to abuse me. 🙈

My hobbies include hiking, biking, identifying the plants and animals I see outside, genealogy, photography, journaling, baking, reading, listening to podcasts, discovering new music, learning new languages, and studying topics I'm interested in. Those include history, linguistics, political theories, range and wildlife management, and counterterrorism to name a few.

All of my exes have been virtually identical. Video games, porn, and some kind of vice like weed, alcohol, overeating, or overspending. None of them really had a personality beyond those things. They were all incapable of introspection and few had any curiosity about the world around them. More than a few were comfortable asserting that they thought they were smarter than me. 😂

I wouldn't say that having those instant-gratification hobbies is a matter of being a LVM because I struggled with porn and gaming as well (and I'm a woman). I quit them, since they didn't benefit me and only made me miserable. Some of my real hobbies are sports, crafting, writing (especially in other languages than my native language so I can learn it better), plants, designing automated hydroponic systems, coding, learning new programming languages, creating small computer programs (especially with new languages) for friends and family that help them with mundane tasks, philosophy, logic, biology, astronomy, science as a whole, skincare, cooking, baking, solving unsolvable mathematical problems and of course painting my nails.

Edit: LVM exes hobbies often were porn, anime, furry, mlp, gaming and going to according conventions to buy merch as well as meeting their lv friends with those same interests.

My hobbies are expansive too :) Bodybuilding has been a big one for me. Being on-stage with mothers and even grandmothers who’s commitment to health and fitness has paid off so incredibly it’s impossible not to be inspired by them. I got into sewing during the pandemic when masks were hard to come by. So I’ve been enjoying making my little projects on the machine (even tho I’m not really good yet). Animal Crossing is a hobby for me too, even though it’s a video game. It’s just relaxing and nice and I enjoy chatting with neighbors, designing my home and growing my virtual flowers. I also really enjoy thrifting for myself, and about half the things I wear are thrifted.

My LV ex’s biggest hobby was... reading the group chat on his phone. Which like doesn’t seem like a hobby but he checked it every time it went off and there were about 30 men in it so someone was writing in it virtually all the time. He also liked to play violent games and scream into his headset. He considered rolling blunts a hobby. He also enjoyed a variation of hide and seek where he’d eat McDonald’s directly before we got dinner and then hide the wrappers.

Both my exes smoke weed and watch porn. Also they were gamers to the point of having designated time slots for games and spending time in the middle of the night on games and streams of others playing games. (Disclaimer: I am not against games but with a small healthy dose, my boyfriend plays games with his brother every few weeks and they combine that with a talk since they live in separate cities and I don’t think that makes my boyfriend less HV)

I love cooking and especially testing new recipes, that is maybe my biggest hobby. Other than that I am really into traveling and road trips. My boyfriend and I share the love of history so we both love reading and discussing history facts and events, he also suggested me a podcast on the subject a few days ago. Generally, I really like podcasts, lately I choose them over listening to music. I mostly listen to ones in German right now to keep my language knowledge in shape since I no longer live in Germany.

I love Pilates, dance, reading, crafts, cooking, skincare/beauty/nails (not sure if the last is exactly a hobby- but I’ll count it!). My LVM ex’s hobbies were the same 2 video games and watching the same children’s movies/superhero movies over and over again lmaoooo.

The guy I’m seeing now is into very similar things I’m into (not the girly ones like beauty and Pilates)- but he’s very intelligent and is into reading, history/trivia, crossword puzzles. And he doesn’t play video games or watch porn. It is definitely refreshing
