SO (32) and I (25) have been together for 2.5 years, living together for 1.5. Marriage is absolutely on the table. We both work in the same field and we met in grad school. After we graduated I moved with him to his home state where I found a job immediately and he struggled for 5-6 months before locking something down. It was a struggle for him, and one year later, he still hates his job and feels underutilized.

I LOVE my job and the people I work for. An opportunity came along for him to freelance on a few of our projects remotely, so he took the after-hours work for some extra cash. Turns out my boss loves him, and wants to hire him full time. He has not yet given an answer.

I’m thrilled that he has the opportunity to get out of his miserable job, especially because I know how wonderful this job would be for him. I think career wise it is a solid move for him. My concern is that the company is super small, ~50 people, and do we really want to live AND work together?

Do any of you work with your SOs, and how do you manage it both in and out of the office? How can I make him feel supported if I disagree with him over work-related things, and not let that bleed into our home life... and vice versa?

Any and all suggestions welcome. Thank you!
