Just tell them you appreciate being considered, but you do not feel ready for advancement at this point.

Higher positions were always trojan horses in my tech career. I prefer having a solid position that gets no attention while I focus my extra efforts on my own outside business interests.

If you do not accept they will become enemies and you will end fired anyway.

I would accept the position but ask for more money that they offered, this way you end up with a big ass salary to retire earlier or they decide to not give you the positon.

Your gray man game is probably lacking. You're spending time on side projects and management knows you have plenty of spare capacity. Not unlike a wife seeing her husband relaxing with a hobby and decides the grass is too long and needs mowing.

From what I've seen at my own job, if I had to take a guess, I'd say there is a diversity hire a rung or two above you who is failing badly. They were hired for their diversity status and simply can't do the job. Management wants to promote you so that you can do this persons job in addition to your own.

Man, something like that just happened to me.

The company I still work for was forcing me to do more salesman and management tasks instead of technical ones (im in IT too), and this was supposed to come with a raise.

I was very uncomfortable and had no repair in expressing it to my superiors.

One week 1 later I got fired. My last day is next monday.

Bottomline is time to you to look for another job, in no time the company you work for will begin prioritizing stupid shit like equalism while leaving behind quality.

Leave the boat early my man. Or wait to get fired like I did ;)

If you are in the corporate world and in a company where you do NOT want advancement, why are you with that company? You should try to find a company where advancing is a goal, otherwise you're treading water.

Take the position. If you don't like it, use the title and responsibility to transition to a different company paying higher than your previous salary.

I’m in the same spot. I don’t want a fuckin promo, I know the amount of politics that goes on at the next levrl, and I want to be out of it. Fuck the drama, give me the money for a good days of work and that’s it.

I don’t want your help “growing or building my career” or whatever other vaginal words.

A JOB is being just over broke, being promoted is having more repsonsiblities, more drama, more politics, for a small pay bump.

Fuck that, I value my piece of mind over it, same reason why I’ll never get married, juice ain’t worth the squeeze.

Just refuse it. "I'm not interested and I am perfectly happy in the role I'm in".

I turned down several offers of promotion in my last job and a ridiculous offer to stay when I left. I was offered the same again when I met up for drinks a few months after I started in my new place. They sulked for a bit but work moves on quickly.

(I left for a new challenge, more basic but earning less in bonuses and far more working from home and flexible hours)

Just take the position. As a mgtow you should be familiar with the teachings of stoics such as Marcus aurelius and it appears to me that there is a duty for leadership that you have been selected to fulfill.

Your coworkers see your protest to accept this gift/burden as weak and unmanly. Usually the best king or leader is one who doesn't want the power and responsibility because he recognizes the dangers and potential downfall. Little does he know that this awareness and principled approach to doing good work for his people are what makes him the best candidate.

A man of stature, pride and honour would assume the role given, and accept his failure or success while putting his best foot forward.

No business or organization is going to keep you around forever, maximize this (at the very least) chance to bolster your resume and make serious improvements on the business' processes and systems. Make an impact.

If they end up booting you out the door let it happen and simply be prepared with contingency plans.
